This my attempt at more of a storytelling approach to a character. An AAR? I dunno, I've never done anything like this... I usually use my player observations with occasional character insight, not the other way around.

Shroombeard's Diary:

Town: The denizens of the place are a vile scum, ganging up on the
weak with relentless pursuit. They will learn to run from me soon enough, but for now I carefully avoid being surrounded by applying the old stick and run tactic. I wonder what drives them. Hunger? Defense? Madness? I think no more of it and buy some torches, a book of blessed teachings and a salve for diseases that would
render me powerless without an antidote.

DL2: I chance a far path and pay the price. A lizardman armed with bow and sword greets me and we fight fiercly. I call upon the spirit of fear, and he runs, but not without taking a cowardly and accurate shot with his bow before deciding that maybe he can win this fight after all. He wounds my head before I strike him down,
and I fear a brain hemorrhage. The rest of the outpost is an assorted bric-a-brac of lesser denizens. There is, however, a lovely grove that grows the healing yellow mushrooms that I cultivate in large batches back home. Also, a shabby shield is found in a disused corner that offers magical resistance to the stinging acid.

DL4: I have learned a few blessings from the book to aid me in my travels. This outpost was rather barren before I got here, and now it is completely empty of filth. Perhaps the groves I found here will flourish now.

DL6: While other beasts and monsters can be calmed through the words from the good book, Brodda simply marches on with violent intent. I must flee from this outpost and begrudgingly grant him the lordship of this facility.

DL:7 I yearn to spend some of this gold I have found. Another spellbook is calling my name, but I can't seem to find a way back to town. An altar to purity has become home to a family of bats
and harpys. I do a little housecleaning and sacrifice my shield to learn what gifts the goddess of purity bestows. She grants me the
gifts of grace.

Brodda followed me to this outpost? I would rather die than let him bully me away again. I throw confusing powders with limited, but sufficient success to achieve the free attacks I need to scrape a victory. I must also say a blessing for the healing mushrooms from the grove and the dislocation magic scrolls. As
soon as I lift an enchanted staff from Brodda's hand, the vile Wormtongue enters the room and surveys the grisly scene. I must hope to kill him or force him to flee for I have no means of
escape! I have just enough might to overcome Wormtongue in a fight that saw him use none of his legendary trickery of vanishing. Poisoned, dying, but a mushroom of healing left, I pick up Careth Asdriag from Wormtongue's belongings. It feels odd to hold a bladed instrument after all the years of training with hammers and
maces and staves, but the power here is undeniable.

Fortune is again with me, for the last bit of unexplored area reveals a way back home. Those villagers better beware.

Town: I quickly dispatch all of the vagrants in town before they steal my hard earned gold. In perhaps what might be folly, I purchase books of learning and prayers far beyond my skill partly because I am curious about what secrets I may live to understand, and party because they were heavily discounted. Wiser would have been to stock up on potions of healing. I saved not even the copper it would take to purchase more torches.

DL:9 I continue setting a rugged pace, and am rewarded with a grove as my first encounter with this outpost and have retained my blessing from the goddess of purity. Though I cannot find a way back as of yet, I will take these two things as a good sign, along with the easily killed forest troll.

Nice AAR, keep going. Needs more shrooms and shovels, though.

Gritty and fun adventure log. Couple of things interest me here. What's the name of the town and where it is? What's the reason for the bloodthirsty citizens? Who are these guys, Brodda and Wormtongue, and what's their connection to the Halls of Mist and/or The Duke? Rename them if you like, I should have done that already. :)

coincidentally, Wormtongue dropped Careth Asdriag for my let's play character as well.

I somehow managed to goof up and not capture the character dump, but got the death screenshot instead. Oops. He got to level 20, but I could not keep up the AAR thing. It wasn't any fun, and after I re-read it I thought it sounded boring as dirt. I don't really think like that. I'm thinking stupid shit like, kill kill kill and blood and guts and veins in my teeth and yawn and other stupid, probably sociopathic crap. Perhaps a video series would be better suited for me? Anyway, a fun character... Oh, he got killed by being too bloodthirsty. I was fighting off a unique? I'm not sure which one now, but light hounds finished me off right afterwards.
