The falcon sword from the Old Castle was quite a fine weapon, granting +3 to physical stats, and of course, +3 attacks along with them as an intrinsic of falcon swords. Come to think of it, it's quite appropriate that it's the sword of Shiva :) Brings back memories of the old Monk rewards (although there is apparently still a chance to score that mighty armor).

I tried for the ? of artifact creation from the arena, but got spanked by the Fenghuang. Not by much though. I got it down to 3 stars before it melee'd me to death. Pretty rough for classes without healing skills. I went with falcon sword and shield, with 9 blows per round for 596 damage average, but it out-damaged me.

Fortunately I was able to nix Cantoras, who was my last deep unique on the wanted list. The last two were Charybdis and Meneldor, who were swept up in R'lyeh and the wilderness, respectively. The result of the scroll of artifact creation is the mighty fine sword currently in my left hand, which I dubbed GigaSlash. Well, maybe not entirely the best name as it's more like "Millions of Slashes" but I was feeling a bit unoriginal.

Let's see how this guy does in the final fight...gonna gather more resources before doing it, and hit 50 first of course.

The huge disadvantage of classes that rely on lots of blows/round is that they take massive damage from enemies with auras. The Serpent has fire and electricity auras, and you can bet at 19 attacks/round the damage really adds up, even with double resist. The Serpent also quite wisely dispels buffs, and it takes one precious turn to quaff a potion of resistance...not to mention speed and healing pots.

Not going down without 20 *healing* and maybe 15 life. Grind time!

Yeah, the Serpent is certainly a lot tougher than before. I'm certain I could've taken it on when it still had Heng stats. Live and learn I guess :)

Switched up some gear for the nice +5 speed harp and the +4 speed/imm fire ring. It'll help mitigate a bit of the Serpent's auras. Also just got that feanorian lamp, which I'm using to milk every bit of damage and to-hit I can.

Also upgraded to 0.0.51 to see if there's a difference with lights and amulets. I think possibility of extra attacks for randart rings is a bit much, Chris, although I won't complain on this character too much if I find one :) That can probably be dropped. It's just the very sad jewelry I keep finding that makes me sadface.

The game felt a little grindy at points, but I don't mind when I'm trying to kill time. It greatly increased survivability when my stealth was pretty poor. I just couldn't take the chance to use Flying Dagger Stance and Dagger Toss, as even a 2% chance of losing one weapon in the midst of a horde of dragons or star-spawns of cthulu or *name group of nasties* was too much for me.

Superspecialization is the absolutely perfect level 50 'Ha! I just got to max level and I get to pick a very unique awesome skill.' I love the concept of the signature weapon, and that it never fails with Dagger Toss. The only disadvantage that I think should be spelled out loud and clearly is that you cannot remove your signature weapon once selected. This was somewhat of a problem with the 4 or 5 metal babbles I encountered, as I was forced to use the poison needle offhand, and ended up missing a good deal of the time.

Finally, regarding my beef with randart jewelry--I think rings are pretty good where they are, but good amulets and lights were exceedingly hard to come by. The Necklace randart I found was very nice, and is pretty much way out of the league of the rest of the jewelry I found. The amulets I found in the Dragon Caves was absolute junk, and while the stats were nice on a good number of the amulets found in the depths of Angband, they were somewhat lackluster. At the moment this is balanced by the great pieces of armor I found, but those pieces of armor definitely took a good bit of effort to acquire.

I definitely support buffing the randart lights back up a bit, as just about every single one was pretty sad. Alhazred was the choice for the Serpent simply because of the slaying bonus, but that's about it. I think the changes you plan for them will be a very good thing, but I think you could probably fairly restrict the max pval to +2 with a rare +3 thrown in there.

Overall, this guy was a very fun experience. Thanks to Dave for suggesting the Weaponmaster class, Chris for all the hard coding work, and to Djabenete for all the nostalgic 2nd ed D&D names that were added for the randart lights :)
