Take II. Well, actually I've died quite a few times without posting. Here are my tips for starting out:
[1] Go to DL1 of Angband and farm rats or worms for CL4. Pick Dex for the boost.
[2] Go to DL3 of Angband and begin the spider fest. At this depth and your level, you only get Cave Spiders. Work to CL10, picking Dex again at CL8. Make sure you have 2 attacks for the Thieves. Probably 400 kills by this point.
[3] Thieve's and spiders. I'll let you figure out macros and tactics, but watch out for early Giant Spiders. They can rip out 100+ very quickly, leaving you poisoned and dying. Try to have !CCW if you can afford it, just in case. Once you hit CL14 or so, they are no longer a threat as your AC will be high enough.

That's it. 7000+ kills in the Thieve's Quest! Now, its time to see if I can put my racial Stone to Mud to good use ...

I figured out my food troubles. Switching from Summon Spiders (4sp) to Summon Phantasmal Servent (35sp) means you will starve in less time than the 300ms reaction time to notice the food warning and let go of the macro key! So, I'm sticking with the safe spider route, even if it means supreme phase spider annoyance. Heck, I'm doing the Tengu and Death Swords quest next :D

Hopefully, I can start summoning Giant Grey Scorpions soon. With Summon Animal, I still get fruit bats and giant brown snakes ... Worthless!!

Back to normal play ever since The Sewer. At this point, summoning is not beneficial, and the expensive spells lead to starvation, but don't give more powerful monsters than summon spiders, so I'm not bothering.

I've had some troubles with some quests, so I'm weaker than I thought. It seems like my damage output is a bit low, so I better head down to DL30 and scum for stat potions (Str in particular). I have Cambeleg, but oddly, this set of gloves from The Barrow Downs is better, I think. With my low Dex (base 18/80, +1 from Race/Class/Personality), getting my full array of monk attacks is going to be difficult, so the +4 dex is welcome. +4 speed ain't too shabby either, and it covers Poison and nether (oops, better swap out that nether ring since I no longer need it :)

I found 7 different kinds of 3rd spell books in The Cloning Pits, but none for me :( And killing Its on the loose without SI is *very* annoying. Basically, you just need to luck into hitting them while walking around. Frodo.

For The Old Castle, I knew I could get a copy of Trumps of Doom, so I geared up (I don't have many resources being an avid scummer). Worst monster was a Great Venom Wyrm brought forth by the Enchantress. That thing was surprisingly hearty! Palantir.

But now at least I can summon reptiles, which should take me to CL50 assuming I don't starve accidentally in the process. I need CL48 for a 7th attack, and an 8th attack is simply out of the question (18/160 dex and CL50 min).
