This is my first beserker so I'm allowed at least one 'DOH' moment!!!

Loads of fun, but their utter lack of quick escapes bothers me though the Earthquake ability should help hold the fort in a pinch while I crank up the recall........

You want to value ImmCold and vampiric weapons very highly. ImmCold will protect your potions, so you can keep your Healing and *Healing* handy and not die. Vampiric weapons are good because with a zerker's crazy damage output, you'll be healing up a lot too as you do damage. In some situations you can even be in the middle of a mob and *gain* HP using the "Massacre" ability, if both of your weapons are vampiric. There are (Vampiric) weapons, and some artifacts are also vampiric.

Also, chaos resistance is really important in general because it prevents hallucination, which will really ruin any zerker's day. (You can't just teleport to escape.)

You could probably manage "The Vault" quest. To be on the safe side, you might want to drink a potion of speed right as you go in! If you don't feel ready to jump into a quest, then you might want to look at the Dragon's Lair dungeon --- dragons are good XP and good loot! :)

Yes, I have had problems with no chaos resistance already. I was very ( and I mean VERY ) close to a shameful defeat in the arena to Barney the Dinosaur. I don't read spoilers so whenever I come across something new......... it really is new. So imagine my surprise as the popular childrens character breathed chaos all over me causing me hallucinations, then blinked so I had no idea of even guessing which of the hallucinations was him. I recovered in time to spot and get close to him, finishing him off with less than 50 hits left.

Have finished off a few more quests. I like breaking dungeon crawling up a bit and each quest normally has a few deadly surprises up its sleeve that catches me the first time I venture in :0)

Question on the variant itself. I see that Entro and Heng are basically the same game. I'm playing Entro just because it is newer but looks to me like Heng is more popular?? Any massive differences between the two?

The vault is a very good idea, also do the mimic one as soon as possible (available in the middle town). After the vault I would go back to castle as the wielder of a certain talking katana is in depth just a bit deeper than you currently are.

How reliable is this or is the insta-kill effect quite rare and only used in emergencies or for ridiculously high hit-point creatures?
