Still a very young *coughs* expendable *coughs* charicter, so when i got a quest for golfimbul I thought cool, no escort (thinking of Tome- first time on Ey) I can easyly take him. after detceting the escort i just saw ooh a group of orcs easy. 1 minuet and a couple of hundred turns later i was stareing at Golfimbul hits you, it was a great hit, *Low Hitpoint Warning*, well in short the only item that had a chance of saveing me was an unidentifyed wand sitting on the floor, in the full knowlegde that anything in depth and usefull had already been identifyed; but no a full 44 levals out of depth i find a wand of dragons flame. 44. levals. OoD. thats the equivilen of finding an eterial wyrm at 50'. is there something I'm missing in this variant or am i to expect the drolem(offsceen) messages as revenge in short order?
P.S. also what are the chances of useing that wand first attempt with this charicter. it can't be high...

OK, first of all sorry if this appears as two differant entrys I coulden't find an update button anywhere.
Well basicly i decided to take (another) hard quest since i had a shiney artifact dagger to play with, which was replaced very quickly after i found out it was almost useless, but that that left me with a levle full of invisables at 400'. After franticly reading all the spoilers i came to the realiseation that nothing that was native to above 500' gave see invisable. I had the idea to try diveing the dungion a few times looking for un-id'ed scrolls, hopeing for a deep desent to actually use for desending, but i came across another amazeingly well timed OoD item which made the quest ridiculously easy, i also find it quite funny that in two adjacent rooms there were two light sourses and the phail was the one i *wasen't* equiping starght away. anyway I'm pretty well stocked now (getting the id spell even at 69% is huge with the money problems + slug paced psedo id this charicter is suffering) and thinking about takeing my next quest for a 'special item' on 500'. Loveing this variant, can't understand why i only have 3 previous plays.
All hail the random number god, without your insane item timing this charicter whould likely have died in two of the quest levals allready.

Ok the 'special' quest that was offered was to bring back an item of value form 500'. took out the vault very easyly nothing took me down more than a siongle breth from a dark hound (onto pretty much my only resist). Recalled with the item from the chest getting excited about what kind of reward a 'special' quest whould give. I wasen't dissapointed, I can't belive thats a guarenteed drop from here even if it guarentees an artifact i got lucky.
Yes i know I'm getting RnG blessed here, but of note is that this is the only time Ive ever found this with a chariter who can wield it, in a variant where its god powered. Also where on earth do 17 sided dice come form, anyone?
now if i could get a few !Aug in a GCV at '550 next trip I whouldent honestly be surprised.

Ok so i was starting to get annoyed with the heavy weapons and low strength, so naturally a !Str poped up just as i was asking for one, then i get more speed, this time due to some boots (+5), for a grand total of +15 speed, still in triple didgit depths(seriously wtf?). I know I am a bit overleveld but that is just from doing all the quests as soon as possable, as each one generically requiers clearing a whole leval.
While doing the most recen quest (something so easy i can't even rember what despite being a 'difficult' quest) I found a pit of money so after all my early money problems earlyer on i now find a very nice cash injection (about 20k just from that pit :D).
Id is now getting to the point where i can use it in the dungion, help out imensely by the 'detect magic items' spell, which in a game with effectively no psedo-id is IMHO broken.

OK well it looks like my lucks (finally) running dry. 1550' for Ancient silver D, and ive got no resist shards so i can't take it yet. Thankfully though that does give me acsess to the all important 1500' and so I won't be wasteing my time while I search for Rshards, Ill be working on statgain (still can't really belive i got this far, this is my second attempt in this variant after all; not counting 4 sub leval 5's years ago when I was just getting into *bands). Really annoyed at myself for useing all the *id* on potions, hopeing for good alchamy rater that waiting too see if my quest got an art, well i can't complain about getting one, despite the fact I very much doubt ill ever use it. master V on a tiny leval was a bit scary but not nearly so much as Xaren on a small the next quest "well it can't happen two quests running; right?". I was ammused to find in the troll cheiften quest that the all got full bodyguards, so a large open room with three of them in was stuffed with T's. Got my first dungion book as a reward, but ill probably leave it in the 8 for now untill i need it, as quite a few seem to be burning up. so now i just need to try to find a decent Rshards at 1500' I hope thats possable...

What a run of luck, that is really unbelievable! To keep her alive I'd be tempted to carry Scarabtarices -- I don't think it can burn up.

Ok i did a little bit of scumming for stat potions, pretending to legitimise it by saying i was looking for a sourse of RShards. Stat potions seem relitively prevalent in this varient so i diden't max them all out, and after i was full of ego or better i just called that a day. while doing this i managed to stumble onto (don't hate me please I was wearing a +luck amulet) the grimoire of power, and belive it or not the spell I'm happyest to get is probe monster, after all this is my first caricter past dlvl 3 in this variant (have they actually *implimented* beginers luck here?)
Well I didn't find any sourse of RShards in fact getting resits in this looks like it could be a real problem, might have to switch back in my rings of Rbase, but when i found some telepathy I decided to grab !Speed and ?Tele in exsess and give the D's a go. Well i diden't have any !Speed but then i rembered i had +20 natural so the plan whould work anyway. As it happened the point was moot as only 2 of the 14 dragons woke up before i hit them and none of them took me under half health, and i whould just have used the old wake one up with a weak wand then hide round a corner trick if two had appeared in one room. and after only clearing about 2/3 of the level the quest said it was over which was a little bit of a relife.
Also as to my amazing luck it dosen't seem to have held up with alchamy, all the things i *id*ed have relied on either stat poitions or the misterious white potion, that relyson strength to make it *bleh*.

Game Broken! Serioulsy though I'm not even sure if this will be fun anymore, nah what am I saying when +Speed>Clvl you *know* your onto something.
I guess doing all difficult quests brings up your reputation too fast and breaks game mechanics? seriously if anyone else can find me a charicter with that sword and those boots in any variant i will bake and mail them a cookie; honestly. As for whats happend, i think there were a couple of quests involveing high leval V's and another $ pit, i don't really rember much i was autopiloting with ringil.
I am really worryed about death by boredom now, mabby take a days break and play some yeek hermit sorceror artless ToME attempts to fix that likelyhood.
Still getting a rareity 120 and a rareity 70 artifact both OoD on the same run must be very very rare and well to have them both have double digit +Speed.
I may well be pilardanceing a few things instead of scumming for resists.

Ok so I rembered that the reason i hated ariel was her +20 speed. ha. so yeah she went down without much of a fight. also maxxed my strength at a dissapointingly low amount, oh well I'm sure I can fix that with equipment at some point.

On 24.7.2010 13:10 ian_pfp@hotmail.co.uk wrote:
Yeah i know iI'm pushing my luck but i found a poition that ive never seen before (of risk) so i had to try it. All i can say is yay it turnerd out to be of augmentation :)! yeah i know my resists still suck majorly, but hey this is just a trail chariter to try out the variant, oh and +39 speed can get you out of non 1HKO's very well. so yeah about to go take on the dracolichs.

Ok i was almost expecting this. a double resisted breath hitting for 563 damage. oh well i supose Ill always find ringil and feanor both OoD again some day, i mean how rare can it be /:( / ?
i was under the opinion that 600 dam/round was the top limit and i was assumeing double resists whould reduce that somewhat, but know my best elemnt 1 hit out. Still i don't think the pheonix is bad as an initial target for anyone else trying a new variant, although to get this far does requier more skill than i have 99.99% of the time.
still deapest charicter outside of ToME/Variants(well and Fury which is sort of a sub variant of tome)

Ouch, sad to see that one go.

Don't know, this looks like a bug to me. If the char dump is correct you had 86% resistance. Unless you were low on health there is no way this should have killed you. In vanilla, the basic 4 max out at 1600, that's less than 250 damage after 86% resists.
So bug, or the max damage of cold was more than doubled, or resistances work even more different in this variant. Hopefully someone who knows this variant can clear things up.
Also 11 dracoliches without res nether? Can't they breath fire too... That's really pushing your luck :)

Ok its the original poster her Im just haveing problems makeing a normal comment with my other email adress since it opened the post...
basicly ive done some wizard modeing and i think that for some odd reason the temporay resistance diden't kick in. if it had i whould have been left with ~180 hp's standing next to a pillar with an obvioously WAY too dangerous monster standing diaganally next to me- but i easyly outspeeded it. i whould probably just WoR and bail on the quest right there. bareing in mind this is a bug based death, whould it still be ok if i restored a backup, as long as i purposefully failed the quest that the bug killed me on? I'm guessing its not good enough for the ladder but i may still play it out anyway, so yeah expect (another) YASFD post at somepoint (hopefully not too) soon.

You should register a forum account, it makes updating characters a lot easier.

So the double res worked in wizard mode? That's strange, maybe you didn't notice you weren't at full hp?

I will make a forum account some point soon (will probabbly go under the name of AtingtonIV after my one clean non joke-class win) and in wiz mode i just created the monster in town and had double res set up well before i got hit, in the game it was straght after. Also with code diveing it does appear that there IS a 1 in Whatever length long is with the compiler that was used chance of an attack that has a 0% chance of critical of causeing one, there is a (**very** small) chance that the absurd luck I had flowed two way. Also the death of the re-animated revsion died due to bad luck in a recall to the first true horror, whatever that is, and was slightly OoD according to edit files and has a very stropng BR_fire.

Also i cheacked and no BR_fire tag in the edit files, and with wiz mode cheacking the nether breath seems to be a *LOT* weaker than the cold in this variant- whould have survived with 20-100 hp's depending on dice.
