And today I had a freak out moment. I revealed the map with my _DungeonMapping and saw a regular pit-sized room. in the distance. Before I could get into Detect Monster range, I saw that entire side of the dungeon being destroyed and coming at me. Turns out it was an entire pit of Umber Hulks. I almost pissed myself. Very funny! I didn't know those could "pit".

I took Fast Casting as my new power, hoping that my assumptions about the speed mechanics are accurate. It sounds to me like it will allow me to possibly cast more spells in a turn, or more spells in a few turns. This is useful with my Heighten Magic ability because I tend to chain about 20 lightning bolts or frost balls together to take down big-uns.

So I'm off to the next dungeon! Going to go against my better judgement again and dive down to the bottom and poke around for goodies. I feel very hard to catch right now, which usually means I'm going to die soon....

Need more speed and heal potions and then I guess I'll try Sauron at some point.

Maybe I just need to keep stacking speed items against those hounds, but I can't believe that's the only answer against them. I'd rather fight a unique or a pack of greater undead than a handful of those hounds...

Something else you can try is actually heading to Angband and doing your vault farming there - Tol-In-Gaurhoth has a higher probability of generating hounds (and undead) than anywhere else, and in Angband you can find high-level dragons which (while dangerous too) have good drops
