Completed the castle quest! I was very happy to learn that the quest reward is my favorite weapon of all time. I'm also using the sexist Katana, but that's okay because the Glaive is an equal opportunity slayer.

Oooh, ooh, question about dual-wielding with Zantetsuken:

if Zantetsuken is your primary weapon and you attack a woman, it says "I will not attack women" and neither it nor your secondary weapon will attack.

But what happens if it's your secondary weapon? Since that is your current setup maybe you will have experienced this situation.

Also, good luck ^ ^

Still trying to get to a decent depth in angband... not having a way to detect stairs is irritating. As a bonus though, 'It' got in my way while I was searching for stairs and he coughed up Ringil at 1600'. On the same level something dropped some special hard leather boots, but no go on Feanor. Heh, that would be asking for too much sugar for a dime I suppose.

Questions questions questions...

I drank a potion of self-knowledge and came across some info I've never seen before.

My life rating is 114/100... Does that mean that my hit points are above average?

My stat maxes look odd.
18/110 Str
18/120 Int
18/100 Wis
18/90 Dex
18/70 Con
18/110 Cha

I thought my Con and Dex would be higher and my Int and Wis much lower. Did I get Nexused?

Which brings me to this potion of New Life. It says it changes my stat maxes and attempts to reroll hitpoints. Should I drink it? Should I get nexus resist covered first?

What does a ritual of balance do?

Thanks in advance for any questions answered!

Don't drink !new_life with those stats. The low cons shouldn't be a problem and that life rating is actually a lot higher than average. I don't think Nexus can change your stat limits, but chaos and toxic waste might be able to. Did you ever have a BASE cons higher than 18/70? Because that is what those maxes refer to.

I agree on Storm and Ringil, not only because of the rNether but because of the vampirism what allows you to use that "attack all around you skill" for free most of the time. Very usefull for when you get surrounded by stronger monsters.

Ritual of Balance turns you into a neutral character by setting all virtous to zero.

ESP is a must for zerkers deeper down so you should go with Jacky's cloak. Too bad you failed cloning pits... That reward would suit you well. I used to go all or nothing on that quest with my zerkers, bringing everything I could and either dieing (restart is fast) or winning that quest. The drops and the quest reward are too nice to pass.

Wow, thanks! You really are more helpful than a heap of *id* scrolls.

I had never seen stat limits before, it just seemed odd. I usually wear Moonmaster because it has both my anti-teleport and esp covered. I swap out Terror Mask for disenchantment resist, I was fighting some uniques I wasn't sure about and forgot to swap back out. The Jack-o-shadows cloak is very tempting, but I lose levitation. I probably should take off levitation cloak so I could take advantage of falling down through angband, and swap back on for when I'm clearing out vaults. I think I'll do that.

The cloning pits treasure must be awesome indeed, that's two people telling me how sweet it is now. I had a berserker before this one that was able to clear out the entire top half, but got surrounded by hydras who were summoned I suppose by the Gachapin clones and died. When this zerker dies I will make it my mission to clear out the cloning pits before heading to Angband.

The boots of Feanor! It even comes with nexus resist, which plugs up the hole in my resistances. The boots really made me feel much better after making a superbly boneheaded mistake. I was getting surrounded by powerful wyrms like Growlrock did, and got scared and used my recall power. It turns out I was able to kill 4 great wyrms of space-time, 6 or 7 great wyrms of law and maybe 5 or 6 of chaos plus a prince of amber, and other baddies... and right as I was about to pick up the tasty treasure I forgot I had recalled and you probably could have heard the cursing from your house.

Swimming a little from equipment combos. +45 speed might be overkill, but it's a gratifying number. Ditching blindness resist to give Hel's collar a trial run. Hoping to find a convenient source of anti-teleportation so I can wear Terror-Mask full time. Low dexterity is robbing me of an attack per round.

Heh... at least you have preserve mode on.

You are well on your way with this guy! I won't say the w-word for fear of jinxing, but you should be able to go far!! Good Luck! ^ ^

I'm out of major healing and nervous about recalling to the deep depths of Angband. Currently thinking about selling tons of stuff to afford a teleport straight to the bottom of the Dragon Lair to search for healing in a safer environ. Put on Calris for max hit points and dragon slaying.

After I sold all my stuff I had only 860,000 or so. I decided to knock off some the quest threads that were hanging over me to try to make enough cash for the cool 1,000,000. The royal crypt quest turned out to be the most profitable, with a dozen or so excellent spellbooks. Now with the cash problem solved, I dropped down and explored the deepest level of the dragon lair three times... Each trip netted a major healing and one minor healing... but the last trip netted me the Gauntlets of Spec! I was toting around these {terrible} gauntlets and figured they were Eol or something but wow, when I had them identified I freaked out because a lot of zerkers use these and I've been curious what they were all about. I put them on and my damage and attacks per round skyrocketed, plus with immunity to cold I can lug around my potions. Currently exploring 4850' of Angband as long as my healing holds out, knocking out uniques, looking for potions and maybe level 50 soon.

Oh yeah, I'd like to mention that I ticked back on the monsters exploit weaknesses option. The only non-default birth option I'm using is preserve mode on, which has probably saved me bagoodles of arties.

They must truly be cursed! Haha. That's funny, I was actually just browsing through some random zerkers and came across the one where Spec does not offer immortality.

Just watch out for good wyrms and you should be fine. I think Hobserk 1 was fighting with the destroyer in the open <- bad idea... and that one single Balance Drake should have for sure been out of sight for another few turns when it summoned it's friends

Songmaster! Thx Elliot for the cool weapon of drink life and wig! Anyway, just killed Oberon without breaking a sweat. I stood on the stairs and let him walk up to me where I promptly chopped off his head. I think he might have knocked of 500 hitpoints or so. I'm going to take a break but and mull it over but I think I'm ready for the Serpent, I say boldly, as I've never seen the Serpent before. I should at least be able to survive if I stay on the stairs.

I killed the Serpent! I also killed Morgoth, Tulzcha, and Azriel in the same fight. The Serpent immediately surrounded me with these opponents, with powerful dragons making appearances now and again. I used my massacre ability and just took them all on! It was so much fun, and a memorable way to win. When Morgoth got down to maybe 2 stars I sliced him in half, way to go Songmaster! I got pushed back to 1000 hit points a few times, but I only needed a few *healing* potions.

Thanks everyone for your comments and helpful advice. I noticed on other characters that they proceeded to kill some deeper monsters, such as a gold ring, so I think I'll do that too sometime this week. I noticed the unicorn running around so maybe I'll nab that horn as well.

This is now my new favorite instant gratification character, just barely surpassing a longbeard warrior in FAangband. I think I'll try making some other races and tackle the zerker again, and try to be quicker, more efficient and braver.

Good job! Zerkers are fun, aren't they :) The ring shouldn't be much of a problem for you, not with that damage. If you can find it that is. IIRC it is cold blooded... The unicorn might have a chance against you if she does the wrong moves the wrong time. And then there is of course entros signature boss..

Thx! Having fun running around like a maniac. Killed the unicorn very soon after the Serpent, and came across the Mad Chemist as well. I got the Chemist down to 2 stars, but he teleported a short distance away, came right back to me and had full health. Meh! I fought with him some more but then he teleported away again. I think I will fight with Terror Mask on next time and maybe I can follow him as he teleports. I just killed the Undead Serpent of Chaos at the bottom of Angband. Still no luck finding the ring. I want to see that Chemist again!

Lol, my experience skyrocketed after killing about 7 great wyrms of power, plus millions of ancient dragon summons. Another funny note, I left my game running all night so now I have +12 hours of playtime, w00t!

Man, it took me forever and a day to find the Mad Chemist again. I was about to give up when I found him. Bonus points for finding him on a small level, negative points for finding him on a small level with a powerful ancient dragon pit right next to him. Mostly great wyrms of law and balance, with some garden variety gold and Ethereal thrown in for good measure.

I don't think my bloodlust will ever be as sated as it was just now. I was able to siphon off a goodly portion of the balance and law wyrms first, but my quake somehow blocked off the Chemist's approach where I had planned on attacking him in the northwest corner. So, I quake again and then all hell breaks loose as the Chemist wades in. Very quickly 3 or 4 great wyrms of power show up, each just filling the level with ancient dragons. Dragon breath was flying *everywhere*. I had planned on wearing Terror Mask so I wouldn't have anti-telport to try to follow the Chemist as he phased, but it didn't work... worse, Great Wyrms of Space Time and Power would bounce me about, ... Moonmaster had to come back on. The Chemist would stop time and fling exploding potions at me which also had the neat effect of blasting a large hole through all the rock leaving me exposed in the middle and seemingly hurled spells at the dragons too. I keep my speed set at 5, so it looked like wig was flying all over the screen, non-stop. Luckily the Chemist wasn't able to teleport very far, and I was able to charge straight for him every time. He teleported several times, but eventually we had our standoff surrounded by all sorts of powerful dragons. I had taken 4 life and 5 *healing* and 24 minor healing, and by the time I struck the killing blow I had 2 each of *healing* and life and most of the minors. I recalled. And then I waited and weathered the storm. After quaking and draining the last of my major healing and even digging a zig zag I found a defensible spot which luckily nothing blasted wide open and I eventually recalled home.

Aw man, now I wish I had died in the blaze of glory. Pretty lame death, but I'm happy not to have to spend 100 hours looking for the ring.
