First OAngband character; just starting to get decent stuff and stat potions, but suffering from almost total lack of *ID*.

Just post-winning.

Sauron and Morgoth were *easy*, especially compared to e.g. a GWoP or even a storm of unmagic. I grossly overprepared for them. Sauron was trivial - he ran towards me and never got close before turning into a pincushion - and while Morgoth summoned a couple of times - that's what genocide is for - and gave me one awkward moment with a nether storm, that was it.

Of course, this *was* with a Maia; and the endgame find of Dor-Lomin helped, but I still had a lot of resistance holes - the Rings of Power are very much less worthwhile than in other variants.

The Eregion ring is rDark, following a newsgroup poster's advice; Mandil offers rNexus and DEX (that latter not needed; as it turned out, nor was rNexus and I would have been better with Fingolfin).

The speed sandals cost me rChaos - from Dal-i-thaliion - but I think were the right choice.

Anyway, deed is done. Probably won't bother with O again - was too easy, nothing particularly interesting, and a bunch of annoying features (especially the inability to get details on what artifact wands/staves/rods are actually doing).

Oangband too easy?

Any ideas (other than removing Maia:)?

Oh. Now I see this is 0.7.0. Why?

IIRC Rangers were overpowered in 0.7.0 (except at the beggining of the game).

Well, I'm a Mac guy; 0.7.0 was the only OS X build I could find.

The Ranger class may be part of it, granted; the combination of excellent ranged damage with utility spells. Never really used the Songs of Bombadil, though. And, sure, Maia was easy - but then this was supposed to be a rapid death to learn the variant :-).

The immunity-is-not-immunity, lack of detail on artifact magic devices, and lack of significant differences to vanilla would be my biggest reasons not to play again; that gripe on lack of detail is probably a minor thing but it just annoyed me :) - probably because I thought that it *could* have been really cool.

That sounds more constructive. Good luck and many funny deaths in other variants. ;>

BTW, I guess Warriors are quite different in O and V (O combat), so perhaps some other time you could try a Half-Troll Warrior in 1.1.0 and be satisfied. Or Rogues (but I do not advise Unlight, currently) or Assassins specialized in throwing (but sensible throwing weapons are scarce and missiles are too good for Assassins in the early game).
