So far, dungeon towns in:
Orc Caves: 16,17,19,20 (!)
Old Forest: 13 (the top!)
Rhun: 33 (beggar drops junkart)

Forest dungeons without walls were initially a pain, since I couldn't make new boulders.

So, your offense mostly comes from boulder-throwing, eh? Interesting character set-up.

Astoundingly good equipment for this stage of the game. All 4 immunities and every resist except Dark covered, and you're barely into Mordor. Wow.

I tried some Ent-Bards fighting bare-hand, worshipping Melkor. They were all wasted in the midgame by bad luck not realizing their weakness. (Slow speed, low hps) But its fun to play them, and I guess once at level 50 they will turn out to be real fine.
I miss the luck with Ent-Bards though. :/
Good luck to you!

Yes low hps. because I have never been lucky or scummy enought to get my con to 40. Hrmmppff!

Early on, especially in Mirkwood, I had trouble hitting anything, which is why I had to bump magic device up.

Melee now is suprisingly effective, especially with my wielded silent watcher. I use boulder-throwing for dangerous FF/princess/vault monsters mainly, hiding in the mountains/walls/trees.

Early equipment was helped greatly by the dungeon stores I robbed blind. 2*dex rings plus a cloak of mist let me steal before I got my stats up.

Finally got fire immunity (from Flare), so I could stop using my Life armour. I need to-hit too much to wear Life armour. Resisted the temptation to bump symbiosis to 25 and summon big Ds. A boulder throwing and a singing we go. I've posted a cmovie of a short fight with a level 80 Balrog in the Khazad-dum quest.

By the way, the Horns of Ylmir in my gauntlets doesn't work. I didn't think it would, but I tried anyway.

You have PDSM and you're wearing *Thalkettoth*? My god! I'd swap the armor around, which should cover all your resists, and then you can wear that +9 speed/attacks ring in slot 'e'. With all immunities covered and over a thousand HP, you shouldn't need the CON boost that badly.

On 19.7.2005 07:26 veryfoobar-tome@yahoo.com wrote:
Oh, that would have been a good idea with the PDSM! I was holding on to it and hoping to get an Artifact Create scroll, but I guess it's pretty useful as is even without enchanting it.

But, now I've got Trone's coat, so I swapped Flare for the Celegar ring. +9 critical hits gives me around +10% average damage from criticals for boulder throwing. With the extra attacks, even bashing with Forochel in mouse form works okay. Used it to level Dawn a bit on the Gondolin Trolls. Only have .4 points in Summoning, but I can create and summon from totems! I think that's a bug.

This Ent has been pretty lucky with Dungeon Towns. The count is now:
Orc Cave: 16,17,19,20
Old Forest: 13
Moria: 36, 45, 48
SLOM: 45
Rhun: 33

With my nice rings and swords, boulder throwing has become my ranged attack and ringwraith killer. It takes 1 or 2 boulders to kill a druj. My blessed bolt lets me wield vorpal blade! It took 3 attacks to kill the Necromancer.

Saw some harps in a greater vault. Maglor wasn't there, but Ancalagon dropped Sting. Did some more Hell Wyrm farming with Dawn. Still wielding Forochel so Mana doesn't run out while singing, plus it gives me Im Cold. Maybe using Toris Mejistos would be a better plan, to avoid the shield penalty on Forochel?

Killed Sauron in Angband 99, but he didn't drop the ring. Boulders were too slow, so used Vorpal Blade. Scummed Mordor trying to get an artifact harp, but no such luck. Did find another mimic cloak of Air, though.
Do I need to throw my unused skill points into Weapons/Combat to be able to hit Morgoth in melee? Or is spirituality or something else a better plan?

Oook won't let me repost my character because my experience is just being drained, I'm running away from everything in Vapour mode. I was actually thinking of not wearing the RoPhasing, but saw it let me teleport at will. Woohoo!

It's done. My cloak of mist got destroyed in my inventory during the battle with Melkor, probably just before I discovered that swapping out Flare for my +9speed/attacks ring was a terrible plan,
since I lost IMfire.

Halfway back up through the nether realm, I got sick of sneaking around looking for the up stairs, and succumbed to the dark side of summoning through my Watcher. Eventually something chain-summoned a GWoP and a GB, which I companioned for the rest of the way up.

Good thing I did, because my master plan for Melkor was terribly broken! I was going to surround him with webs, wield the Anchor, sing a song, and melee. My GWoP and GB just came along for the ride, I thought.

Melkor showed up almost right away, and it looked like things were going according to plan, that is until he breathed something that fried all the webs. The GB and GWoP saved me with their summons, and quake on Sting was useful too. The demon-bladed vorpal blade did do most of the work killing Melkor, though. For extra fun, my arms fell off in the middle of the battle, but luckily it was Sting that dropped at my feet, so I grew new arms and picked it back up.

There was a big battle after Melkor died between my GWoP, GB, and pets, and Melkor's pets. I sat it out in some new webs, to see what Melkor dropped. My guys won, but the only souvenir I could find was this lousy Harebrion T-shirt (I mean Armour).

I never did find the Harp of Maglor.

Thanks, but rock throwing only lasted a bit into Angband. Beyond that it just takes too many hits to kill. I did use it a few more times to finish off ringwraiths, but that was about it. Whacking stuff with Sting and/or Vorpal Blade was simply more efficient. I even gave up on that, coming back up through the nether realms, and let my summons take care of level clearing.

But, prior to Angband, rock throwing is great, give it a try!
