He's been doing great. Found that HA bastard sword early, and it was absolutely wonderful. Used it happily for quite a while, and only recently traded it in for Fiona. That dlevel isn't really accurate as Trickster has been spending most of his time in the Dragon Lair. Some classes definitely handle that place better than others. My bard spent 10 minutes there and ran screaming. Trickster feels quite comfortable there, though. Good detection, double base (and poison) resists, and good stealth lets him pick his battles pretty easily. His damage output is respectable, with Ancient dragons (not AMHD, though) going down without much trouble. He just knocked off Itangast and Scatha.

The big question is going to be: when does he go somewhere else? His next stop will likely be the Cloning Pits, but he won't be able to handle that until he gets a bit more speed (a RoS or Boots of Speed would be great, but I'm not holding my breath on either) and probably a better bow as well. Or when I just get too bored.

Hengband has been exceedingly cruel in its handling of high-end melee weapons, however. That Holy Avenger bastard sword only lasted as long as it did because Ishikawa Goemon rudely failed to drop Zantetsuken, choosing instead to drop a glaive of slay orc and something else equally disappointing. As a follow up, Trickster killed Smaug not long after making level 34, and Smaug dropped a (+6,+17) scythe of slicing of prism. It was awesome. Once I got used to it, Trickster just mowed down everything in front of him. As an added bonus, immediately after finding the scythe, the BM had 3 staves of speed for sale (7 charges each), which was going to be really handy in the cloning pits. Roughly 30 minutes after finding the scythe, my power went out. Naturally, I hadn't saved. When my power came back on and I booted back up, the scythe and staves were gone, presumably never to be seen again.

On the one hand, I'm naturally quite disappointed. On the other hand, this happened to me once. An archer I was playing found Ringil, got to enjoy it for a little bit, and then I lost power, cruelly ripping Ringil away. While the character never found Ringil, he did go on to be my only Hengband winner, so maybe this is a positive, if painful, omen.

Trickster switched from Hammerhand to the Crown of the Magi (figuring the lost 30 or so HP was worth rDisenchant, since I was going after Brand at the time, and the lost other stats didn't cost a melee attack), and that covered rBase, so the Lochaber Axe became expendable. I'm increasingly a fan of Vorpal effects in weapons, and Crisdurian has good damage dice, nice to-hit and to-dam bonuses, Vorpal, lots of slays, a useful damage brand, AND still 5 blows/round. Looks good to me. Note that his damage is a bit lower than it was because of the newly found cloak of the bat.
