First he found Taratol, which would have been great, except that he needed one more point of STR to get a second attack with it (stupid 17 STR). That point of STR took a LOOOONG time to get (level 26 or so), by which time Aeglos turned up. Elrohir generally runs around with both equipped, fires off Taratol's haste, and then fights with whichever makes more sense (almost always Aeglos).

My first character to get past both the dark elven lord AND mimic quest. I lost a lot of mid-20s characters to those two quests.

Elrohir's real problem, though, was frustration. He wasn't really quite ready yet for the mid-40s, but I didn't know what else to do. Once the Vault and Tower were done (the Tower was hugely disappointing. Not a single monster over level 20.) he was still level 29 with recall depths all down in the late 30's.

I guess he could have hung around doing levels 30-35 of various dungeons over and over again, but it was getting tedious pretty fast. Plus, it takes a lot of Headless and Cave Trolls to gain levels at that stage. Should he had just stayed there until he found something that covered a few more resists or perhaps gave a speed boost? What was I missing?

On the bright side, now that I've gotten a character over the early-to-middle-game hump, even if he didn't survive long in the middle game, I'm pretty sure I can do it again. Plus, since he was a ranger, widespread use of 'Probe' ensured the character memory has full detail on lots and lots of low level monsters for future characters.

Maybe another Chaos Warrior next, or perhaps an archer or warrior mage. Hmm. Lots of classes to choose from.
