This is going too be much harder. No rings, amulets, wands or rods (unless artifacts or they resist lightning). That means biffed early game detection (traps, doors, monsters) and difficulty getting resist base unless lucky. I had a really poor start with nothing useful after the Angband quests (bow of accuracy and destroyed amulet) and the town quests. The Mimic's didn't have a single excellent item other than boots of stealth (I already had a pair). The death swords showered me with good and average blades. I mean, nothing was going my way!

(Archviles will kill you with no detection, no fire resist and under 300hp).

I finally employed some trickery to reforge some rings. First one was a dud, though I actually do need the +4 Str. The second turned out much nicer! My plan was to use Nazgul rings (which now resist elements as they are supposed to be the rings of power gifted to the humans), but the first 3 Nazgul I have slain haven't dropped any!

So, at this point in the game I need more speed. It's really hard to put down Slayer and even harder to put down my Weaponmastery ring, but resistances have been troublesome all game and I need Sound from my Rohirrim reforge. I still haven't managed to cover Light, but you can actually win without that one if you are careful.

In the end, it was the lack of detection that made me really not want to play this guy. You can see how little healing I found: Only 15 !*Healing* and 6 of those are scripted in quests and corpse rewards! Only 20 !Healing and some of those are arena and corpse rewards as well (3?). These numbers are about half of what is normal, and you can see I was probably going to come up short anyway (I had the J down to 5 stars).

I think I will give Air Elementals rods, which aren't destroyed by lightning normally (Neither are amulets, btw). Having rods shouldn't be unbalancing as this normally just means detection for me. Rods of healing are too rare and this build has low device skills. Anyway, if I'm ever to play this again I will need rods :)

Water Elementals, on the other hand, get off far too easy with their corrosive touch which only matters in the early game. Acid normally kills staves and scrolls, so I wonder if they shouldn't pick up at least one of these restrictions?

But I agree on the water elemental, played one yesterday for a bit, 3h lvl 38. (Died to stupidity, something with a wyrm and no res vs it.) They don't have a real handicap. Found an armor of protection and had a booming 60AC at clvl 20.
