level 40 i attempted to grab inazami, but she resisted my one attempt and that same turn she summoned a bunch of greater undeads, so i had to abandon that plan, i never got an opportunity to try again safely. im a newbie at this variant, and this is the farthest ive gotten to date. but the one thing ive learned from half a dozen snatcher attempts that got pretty far, is that they nearly all died right when I changed to a new body. it leaves you so vulnerable, its not safe to attempt it if there are any monsters nearby, even only moderately dangerous ones

i had designs on grabbing fundin bluecloak too but his summons make it very problematic. he is still alive, so i might try again if i can. he looks like he would be great to try

generated the artifact balance DSM, and got (+4,+10) which is pretty nice melee boost. unfortunately its gathering dust at home now, need to wear Himring to get all resists covered

Amaterasu has been stellar against uniques below 5000'. No gear restrictions, good hp, fairly good spells (heal, star ball (which hurts Morgoth), and some escape magic (teleport self, teleport monster level)). On the other hand, my engagements with Morgoth as Amaterasu, have not gone well at all. Hasted I'm still barely faster than him, I quickly get overwhelmed by summons, and there doesnt seem to be any way to use terrain to your advantage, since he bores through rock, and also hits his summons which rearranges the terrain.

I'm going to have to try something different. Some ideas, sorted in order of preference and/or feasibility:

1. scum for a 5000' level that has a vault with a permanent rock pillar. Such vaults do exist because I have seen them, but this would still take a lot of patience to find the right circumstances. And there are some risks too: I have to clear the vault with morgoth stalking me, while engaging Morgoth another unique that resists teleport could show up and wreck my plans, and also if morgoth moves away from the pillar (including when fleeing?) things could get hairy
2. Hang out at 4950', hunt down all the uniques, hoard genocide scrolls/staves. Then face Morgoth and dispatch his summons with genocide. Killing all the uniques would surely take forever, but I think this plan is pretty foolproof, and I'm pretty sure I could accomplish it with Amaterasu too.
3. Get more speed. +45 already seems pretty high, but Ringil is still out there somewhere and I know there are better boots too.
4. Possess a unique with passwall. Susanoo is still alive, also Nodens(?) and Gothmog(??). This would give me an escape route for summons, and maybe even a risk free way to melee Morgoth, if I can hack & back and stay inside the walls.
5. Possess a unique with the invulnerability spell. I'm not certain this is an option, but seems like unique angels can have this spell and there's at least one still alive.
6. Find a ego/artifact item with invulnerability activation. I once saw a 'cloak of justice' for sale in town with this activation, but I couldnt afford it at the time, and only saw it the one time in the dozen or so games I've played, so its clearly pretty rare.
7. Somehow fight morgoth with summons?? Not sure this is really possible. I havent been able to accomplish anything with pets, Amaterasu can summon powerful dragons but they always seem to want to fight each other. Maybe possess a unique that can summon Cyberdemons?

So it was option #3 from my list of possible strategies.

I killed morgoth with mostly star ball spell and a few melee hits. And kept backing away from his summons. The screen was literally filled with monsters at times.

5 !restore mana + all 5 charges on the _magi

3 ?mass genocide

and stayed hasted the whole battle. the _speed got drained so good thing i had the potions
