Decided after messing around with high-elf bards to make a serious attempt with a dwarven priest. I'm in Rivendell, just back from my first attempt on the Misty Mountains where I killed Golfimbul (He didn't drop squat).

Pretty sure the Mithril ring is Feather Falling (So I won't waste identify on it), and finding rod of Dowsing useful for mapping rivers in Misty Mountains. I'm hanging out for the 4th priest book, but Rivendell doesn't have it... I'm going to trek back to Bree to see if its there. Misty is fun, with all the goblins and orcs, kind of like an extended orc pit :)

I'm just at that tricky stage where Orb of Draining is still hard to cast... luckily Unangband has Striking priest spell in the second book that does 3d6 against one target or 6d6 vs. evil/undead.

Just completed my first troll pit, in Mirkwood. The troll priests are a lot more dangerous than Angband as they teleport out of the pit and into your vicinity. Artifact weapon is randart with poison & electricity brand, slay natural and troll, wisdom bonus and possibly free action (Not for sure yet, as cloak may have it). The improved Dispel Evil in Abjurations came in handy although could not be cast reliably enough.

The fight with Beorn the Shapechanger at the house of Mirkwood was memorable to say the least... given that you can prepare for it as much as you want and escape by travelling to an adjacent location, it still took me 2 or 3 goes to beat him. He's approximately 15 levels out of depth, and has a tough escort, so it was a matter of leading them away from him, hasting up, and hack-and-back tatics against him (Using variant_fast_moves to allow me to step back at half energy cost).

Enjoying playing this game... of course, I should say that. ;)
