There is only one Paladin winner on the ladder, and it certainly wasn't mine. Anabasis managed Vorpal Blade, Feanor and a 121% life rating, none of which are even 1% likely in a normal game, so I am unlikely to even hold a candle to that font of awesomeness. So, I'm playing forever, and I keep telling myself: "The game can't be this freakin' hard!" I'm running into Great Wyrms of Power, Cantoras, Bahamut, super monsters on every turn. I'm not carrying destruction, lack any healing but the paltry 5 potions I deign to carry, lack double resistance, lack passwall. Lack ... well, any sort of power! Run! Run!! Run!!! Flee for your life!!!!

But, alas, I finally stumbled on to a copy of Wrath of God. The main point of this book for me is the Armageddon spell, I think. Finally, I go from no destruction, and mercy to the vagaries and whims of an evil RNG, to near infinite destruction, and the ability to level the playing field when fate feels the need to surround me with millions of hit points worth of unkillable foes.

Ah, Hengband, how I love thee!
