Attributing your quotes

When I try to quote some text using the editor's quote button, it doesn't let me attribute the quote to someone. If I quote a whole post using the quote button on the post, though, then I get an attribution. However I keep forgetting how to attribute a quote manually; this doesn't seem to work:

[quote user="somebody"]He said it![/quote]

Any chance of getting the editor's quote button "fixed"? And how do I quote manually again? (I supposed I could quote a whole post and see what the forum gives me, though... )
