r.g.r.a. is a newsgroup about angband; people are quite entitled to continue posting there. Oook has been responsible for continuing many of the *band community functions when other sites/people/whatever have ceased to do so. Pav has continually bent over backwards trying to accommodate everybody, and I am yet to see him refuse a reasonable request.
All due respect to Timo, but he says in has latest post that he has not played the game in 6 months. For some people, it seems to have come down to a choice between usenet and angband, and they have chosen usenet. That's fine, but I don't see that there's any need for cultural cringe on the part of forum users.
I now actually prefer the forums. Chief reason? Lack of flamewars.
Let's hope I haven't just started one
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
There are plenty of newsgroup-to-web php clients available. I was just hoping that there was a server available in vBulletin as well. I did a search, and there's exactly one poorly documented php-nntp server available. I agree with pav--such a port would be a fairly big deal, given that it would be no more than a minor convenience.
Personally, I see no need for this - I always found forums much easier and appealing than newsgroups. I'm still reading .announce, but an RSS newsfeed on a wegpage would probably be better. You'd need some frontend for developers to post new announcements, sure, but other than that...
