    Path of Exile?

Anybody play this during the beta, and if so... thoughts? I'm looking forward to playing it when it opens up on the 23rd, if my rig can run it. I can't run D3, but it looks like I might make min. specs. The interactive skill tree on their website is intriguing.

Wow, thank you - this looks awesome (and free?!):

Path of Exile is completely designed around items. Any game system that can be itemised with random properties has been. Our flasks are persistent items that have mods. Our end-game areas can be found as Map items that have mods altering their challenges and rewards. We've gone as far as removing gold as a currency and basing our trade economy around orbs that can randomly reroll the properties of other items. We have carefully constructed our item system for veterans of the best Action RPGs.

... this sounds a lot like what I wanted to do in v4 (and am trying to do in pyrel) - but it seems to have gone quite a lot further. Very interesting indeed. I'm signing up!

Cool! I've already downloaded it... it's close to 5 gigs. I would've given them money to access the closed beta, but it would've griped me to no end if it turned out I couldn't run it. I'm rather miserly, that way. They have some build of the week youtube videos that are rather interesting too, so I know what I'll be watching in the background at work tomorrow...

It looks interesting, but the whole 'online only' thing really turns me off. Throw in a real offline single player mode, change license, put a considerable price on it, and I'll buy it.

As of now, it's gonna be just another (M?)MOG with lots of micro payments.

I've been having a lot of fun with this game. I would prefer single player offline also, Arendil. I don't mind playing single player - online, which is how I played D2 unless I could convince a friend to play... but I couldn't imagine playing a game like WoW or Runescape or whatever where everyone is everywhere. For a second day release, I played 3 or 4 hours with smooth framerate and no lag, and my 7 year old rig does a pretty good job by it. I had to turn off shadows, which is lame, but I was able to get textures to the highest amount.

It occasionally nabs the atmosphere I loved in D1 (I prefer D1), but is mostly D2 with a different take on skills/leveling. I wish it were a little harder, but I suppose it ramps up in the 2nd and 3rd difficulties. Okay, enough rambling... I was jealous when yous guys were talking D3 shop, so now I've got a D3 of sorts. If you guys get into it let me know what your running. I've got a Marauder going now. And I'll probably play a Maurader next. And after that...

I am loving this game. Unfortunately it's now so popular that there are a lot of glitches where you get logged out, but they're working on adding capacity.

I am stunned be the beauty of the passive skill tree and the elegance of the skills-via-gems system. Lots and lots of food for thought.

              Incoming wall-o-rambling-text...

Yeah, I'm getting hit with a lot more disconnects, mostly when changing areas. I searched around and I have to use --nosound for the game to not crash. I just play the game normally and if it crashes I'll nosound to the waypoint I need then restart... obnoxious.

I need a more interesting build, even my legendary resistance to repetition is starting to get a bit burned out. I have a two handed axe guy with blood magic and resolute technique. I'm driven crazy by all the damage nodes that are so close to me, but I probably need life nodes and resist nodes to survive the next difficulty.

I'm level 31?, starting act 3 and haven't found a unique yet. Tons of yellows. Oh yeah, I'm sure you found the skill tree thing on their website. It's fun to click on at work when nobody is looking. Here's my dude at the moment. Heavy strike and cleave are the order of the week, with leap slam for escape and boogeying.

Brilliant - thanks for sharing. What is the advantage of blood magic?? I can't see it, unless life massively outstrips mana later on (they start roughly equal).

I've not yet hit level 10, so have a way to go. Shame it gets repetitive - I hope it at least has the replayability of D2 ...

Blood magic works well for me since everything I do leeches life, and with the increasing cost of leveled skills, not enough mana to spam my best attacks. Now I cleave and heavy strike away. It might cost 14 for me to cleave at the moment, but each enemy I hit adds 16 hitpoints. And, I can't miss. My skills pay for themselves now.

The story keeps up the pace through Act 2. I haven't had a chance to play Act 3 since my game got much worse with bugs. I just re-downloaded so I hope that helps.

The burnout is mainly from trying to find that next waypoint and getting frustrated. When I want to stop playing, I want to stop playing, but be exactly where I left off... not have to replay through already explored areas. Ideally it would be like diablo 1, but since that's impossible, I wish every time you took 1 step in a new area you could simply waypoint back to it without having to find an arbitrary waypoint. D2 frustrated me with this too.

Stopped playing this otherwise excellent game because of massive bugs and disconnects.
That and I found the melee to be a bit on the unresponsive side, compared to D3 or Torchlight2.
My highest toon was a sumoning witch with totem support. Totem is yet another fascinating concept on top of skill gems with modifier chains.

I haven't played this, but I'm so glad I checked out that skill tree. Wow. It is a good example of just astounding the player. People will remember this game just for the skill tree if nothing else.

Well, I'm now at cl32 at the start of Act III, and really loving the game. There's a *huge* jump in difficulty at the end of Act II - I've gone from cruising to really having to use every tactical device I can think of (and still dying pretty regularly).

I'm now looking for an item with three red and one green sockets - I don't really care what mods it has. Quite an interesting reversal.

Yeah, after tinkering with some of my settings and maybe some help from patches from GGG, I've been able to play a lot these last few weeks with no problems. I'm currently clvl 49, and am starting act3 also, but on cruel difficulty. I have to agree about the difficulty spike at the end of act2. Vaal Oversoul was the first thing to kill me (twice). The same spike occurred for me at the end of act 2 cruel... I cruised act 1 and 2 cruel, but I was able to kill Vaal without dying this time at least.

I'm really enjoying my character a lot more now, he utilizes a lot more skills. (Heavy strike, cleave, warlords curse?, endurance cry?, rejuv. totem, blood magic, leap slam, occasionally flicker strike) He regularly dishes out 3000dps, which makes me very happy. I'm also looking for a 4L r,r,r,g! Haha. I have a really good 5 socket armor that I have burned perhaps 12 fusing gems on, and I've yet to get 4L, much less 5. It is r,r,r,r,g. I need the green for faster physical attacks. I now understand the insanity of the trade chat... getting the crafting side of POE to work has a low chance of working satisfactorily.

Have you managed any artifact drops yet? I have found 2. Hrimsorrow... and Hrimsorrow.
