I'm looking forward to that! Using old software has the advantage that it makes you feel like you're still living in 2009, giving you the illusion that you are younger, but that's pretty much the only advantage. And it's not worth the effort of having to delve deep into every forum to find posts related to your software versions.Resistance (futile as it is) begins at OhmComment

I usually play on a laptop, listening to music in background. My music choices vary with gender of character. Heavy metal, rock, specific fighting game OSTs (namely Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike) for male characters. Trance/J-Pop with female vocals for female characters. Heh.
My game of choice...Sil, obviously. My best try at PosChengband 7.0.0's nightmare-mode on Angband.live:

If I'm offline I'm probably in the middle of maintaining Gentoo or something-Linux or other.

I actually take the road less travelled it seems. I like middle of the night, dark house, and utter silence. I actually wear unplugged Bose headphones just as an extra muffler. I zone into the game on a very deep and real level. It's spiritual I guess you could say. I, of course, am being dramatic. But it is very intense. I find myself very in tune with what every piece of my equipment is doing and calculating this and that. I find a strange amount of satisfaction completing my defenses, resisted, and protections, and maxing out my stats and damage. It's all about the numbers for me. In the sensory deprived environment of darkness and silence, the numbers come alive! Obviously joining me against the alphabet! I like killing letters with numbers.Comment

A pretty perfect description of the game.
I tend to play much the same way. Typically at night, and generally shrouded in silence. Pretty much any time I'm at my computer I am listening to music, however the majority of the time I'm playing Angband it's without music. It didn't really start as a conscious decision though. I would sit down, fire up the game, and 2 hours realize I haven't been listening to music the whole time. Now I find that I can concentrate much better without the music.Comment

In my last game, I took the stairways down and found myself in a room full of green worms; I avoided it without waking them up. I picked up an un-id'd scroll. Next room: a novice priest. I managed to kill him somehow, with some help from flasks of oil. Suddenly, Grip, Farmer Maggot's dog, came charging onto me. I tried meleeing it (I was a warrior, after all). All flasks were gone though, and I still was CLVL 1. A couple of rounds and the bastard took me down to 2hp. What should I have done? I read the un-ID'd scroll. Deep descent! I was carried to lvl 5 straight away. Room empty, so I could rest to regain my HP. Then, finally sensing some calm around me (lousy level feeling), I took out my laptop and started playing Angband.
Roguelike keymap, by the way.Last edited by fph; December 4, 2013, 09:21.--
