Hiring a method actor to play @ would make for interesting rehearsals... *pictures Pacino wandering the subway wearing a giant @ costume for three months*
Angband is based on the monsters and characters of Tolkien's works, but not the story. Angband has very little story except "go into dungeon, kill monsters, kill Morgoth." A movie of Angband would be incredibly boring. A movie of Nethack OTOH might work, Nethack having a lot more story/plot than Angband.
The movie could very well be about taking the Silmarils in Angband and the ruination of it during the fight with Fingolfind during the War of Wrath. Even though the Silmarils were taken after the war had finished, it could be a little backdrop story in the movie.
"Angband" has significant historical value in Middle Earth, I fail to see what "@" signs have anything to do with making a movie out of it.
Making Angband the movie in animation (with ASCI character of course) would be cool, I think it would need to be a short film to avoid it becoming repative.
A movie of the Silmarillion would be {excellent} but would anyone try? I imagine it to be quite hard to make a film from a book that is almost entirely narrative.

It might be boring for other than *banders but then again look at DOOM the movie
