version control as save game system?

i programmer friend suggestions roguelikes, so when i asked how do i can multiple save and restore he said you cant. and then he said he uses the version control they use at work (sudversion) for saving games..

i read up on this subversion thing, looks complicated (and probly needs a server too?). but i thing its great if you want saving: like it can go back and forth between saves, you dont need to know how a game saves it files, organized, works for other games not just roguelikes, etc..

trolling? if thats what you want then this will be my last post on this board then..

but anyway regarding version control, its awesome! i downloaded tons of version control and settled on mercurial since it works offline (the rest does too but hg is just easy). its lots more fun for me this way. you can even fork your character. and i really think the best thing is that it works on ALL games without knowing how the save game files work...

Heh, sorry, don't give up on roguelikes just yet - it's just that a lot of roguelike players look down on those who make backup savefiles; many of us consider that cheating. Why? I dunno, it's just tradition :P

My apologies if that wasn't your attention. There is nothing like 'savescumming' to provoke a reaction in the *band community.

Which is really stupid. Roguelikes consider what all other CRPGs and most other computer games of any sort consider an ironman mode the default mode. It's one of the biggest turnoffs for new players I think. Probably the biggest now that graphical tiles are available that are large enough to distinguish.

Unlike the super-cool tile users .

I have no point, I'm just suffering from post withdrawl. (Pay attention to me!)
