    Shockbolt Tiles

This new tileset is simply gorgeous, but I'm having an issue with spells. When I cast something like magic missile, it appears as a guy icon moving across the screen and hitting the enemy. I had to drop my delay down to see it clearly...

I'm playing the newest windows autobuilder version (angband-v4-881-g92fda70) I didn't change anything besides switching over to roguelike command set. I noticed that I'm getting an error as I load my character: "parse error in \lib\pref\graf-shb.prf line 751 column 5" I'm assuming this is causing the problem... How do I fix this?

Also, Angband was meant to be played on a 30" monitor. It's so very nice... :-)

That's interesting - thanks for the report. Shockbolt specially drew all eight beam/bolt directions for the spell animations, so they're obviously mapped to the wrong thing if you're not seeing them.

The parse error may or may not be related - what is line 751 of your graf-shb.prf?

      Line 751 is
      K:sword:Executioner's Sword:0x8A:0x8F # & Executioner's Sword~

Tileset is Shockbolt's, nice graphics enabled, 4x2 tile multiplier.

Usually a parse error will halt the parsing of the prf file, so everything that comes after line 751 should show as ASCII. Spell effects are usually at the end of the files. That doesn't explain the "guy" unless things have changed recently.

Well, I redownloaded the latest autobuild, didn't change a thing. Created a mage in town, and it still did the weird character instead of magic missile. Anyone else confirm this is happening or that I've just lost what little is left of my mind? The latter would hardly surprise me...

I doubt that you're imagining it. The most recent change was to graf-shb.prf less than a week ago, so that's probably done it. For some reason the git repository thinks that the v4 version of that file is totally different to the V version, which makes little sense (there are differences in some item names, but that should be it) - I've asked Blubaron (who created the file) if he has any idea why it might have diverged.

Anyway, this is a long-winded way of saying that I think this problem will go away at some point, even if we haven't sussed it yet. I can't immediately see anything wrong with your line 751, but it needs closer inspection.

I tried also on the latest autobuild, and my own compile, and didn't notice anything odd with MM (looks like a bolt to me). I'm running on XP though, so that could make a difference. What version of windows are you running.

I doubt you're going crazy, but you might have a bug that's difficult to track...

Maybe the line endings all got changed? You should be able to do a diff that ignores whitespace changes to see what's actually different about the file.
