Actually Zang (version 1.2) was originally forked from PCAngband 1.4 (PCAngband 1.0-1.4 were a PC port plus follow-ups to frog-knows). From memory, it did then import most of Vanilla from time to time.

Given the age of the code base, and the size and growing complexity of the game, I strongly suspect this is a case of "I'm abandoning the project because otherwise it will eat my life."

The Angband Variant Repository now has PosChengband updated to its final version, 7.0.2.

It's done with actual bitflag data structures, not hacked up with the mysterious flags1, flags2, flags3. It is a LOT easier to read--and to get right. Take a look at the V source.

I have just downloaded Poschengband from the Repository, but I cannot figure out how to open the game. I have run through the files looking for a program, and have found nothing. I read the Readme, but the instructions for Windows seemed only to confirm that there should be a program in the folder which one may click to launch. Am I overlooking something obvious, or is the Repository version of the game missing something?

Sounds like you have the source code. You'll need to compile it or find a pre-compiled version for your OS.

What link(s) are you using to download PCB?
My best try at PosChengband 7.0.0's nightmare-mode on Angband.live:

If I'm offline I'm probably in the middle of maintaining Gentoo or something-Linux or other.

Hello; sorry for the delay in answering. Some personal things came up in my life.

What link(s) are you using to download PCB?
I used this link, at the Angband Repository, to download PosChengband. I clicked on "Download PosChengband as .zip". I am not familiar with ".tar.gz"; is that the one I should have clicked?

Sounds like you have the source code. You'll need to compile it or find a pre-compiled version for your OS.
I am afraid I do not know anything about compiling. I am on Windows, if that helps.

Thank you for taking an interest. If this doesn't work out, is there anywhere else I could download a pre-compiled version?

From the few files I examined, that site seems to be only source files. I know nothing about compiling, but the readme.txt makes it clear it needs to be compiled.

Well, maybe there is someone around here who would be willing to explain the process to me in baby-language.

Or maybe someone will have a source for a pre-compiled version.

If you can't get PosChengband to work... download FrogComposband

                              It's pre-compiled.
The Complainer worries about the lack of activity here these days.

What Sideways said. The game is a recent fork of PCB
