Hmmm... often when I get to about 6 sources of a resistance, it says I have 100% anyway.

        Stucked Stats

        Hello again

Recently I've came across a really nasty bug.
Playing a Maia and a Mage my dex is currently 18/30.
Happily Buying dex potion from the BM, hoping to get my dex higher, paying a LOT of AU for that cheap dwarf.

My potion was quaffed but my dex remains the same!

The same happened (or didn't happened) while trying a chr potion from the dungeon, having no effect on my 18/66 !

Shouldn't my max be somewhere around 18/100 for each?

I seriously doubt this is a bug, but I could be wrong.
Potions of DEX (or of any other stat) only raise your stat so high (and quite possibly become less effective as you near that maximum point). In order to get them even higher you need Potions of *DEX. That asterisk makes a difference.

EDIT: changed exclamation point to asterisk, but apparently I'm still a little off base.

Exclamation marks simply means it's a potion?!

Check your stats on the 'C' screen. The first value is your base stat. This is the one risen by potions and cannot rise above 18/100. After that, race, class and equipment modifiers are added (or substracted). Probably you simply have a sum of -7 dexterity modifiers.
If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.

Well it's not my first ball game you know...

              Any way I checked again
my basic Dex is 18 and my base Chr is 18/16, and for some reason it will not rise even after using !dex or !chr

Could the !*dex i used earlier somehow 'jammed' my stats?

Buzzkill is correct. A Potion of Dexterity will raise your base DEX as far as 18, but no further. To get from 18 to 18/100, you need Potions of *Dexterity*. This is an FAangband only feature, and the * potions occur about 10 levels deeper.

                Somebody had to do it.

I'd like to see a joke super-rare monster added to the bones file that would generate the ghost (or lich, etc.) of The RNG and he would have maxed stats etc. Would make me chuckle.

                  And then recall.

Or killing Morgoth could open another level in which you have to battle the THE RNG. This way you could go on playing for a reason after officially winning.

It's starting to sound like the Secret Cow Level in Diablo if you do some bizarre action at a certain point you will be teleported to the lair of the RNG.

Only problem with that secret level is that it never existed...

I'm totally for adding the RNG at 127, though.
It would have no attack itself, but Summon Uniques and a really mean passive effect. I mean, like, you always rolling the worst possible number (which makes you always fail spells and magic devices with fail >0%, always miss with too low to-Hit and so on).

I know! The RNG unique should sit in Nowhere Town, just in case somebody should get there. If you manage to kill the RNG, he ought to drop a rod of jumping, which lets you choose which level and dungeon you would like to teleport to, like the debug command lets you do. Yeah yeah, and the RNG should be an @ symbol. He can spit out the random formulas used to make the game as his gibberish that he says. Man I'm getting too excited about this. I've got a character from .2.1 sitting in Nowhere Town I think, I wonder if I updated to .3.5 if he would still be in Nowhere Town... maybe the RNG is waiting for me! I've got to leave work early to find out...
                            You are on something strange
