        If you like. I usually do. Depends whether you want them to land in melee or not? You can throw them at a wall they still work

            They create a coaligned monster of whatever the statuette is.

                Yes. Magical figurines (but NOT statues) will turn into the monster they represent and become your loyal pet. If you see a figurine of a powerful high-level monster in the black market, it might be worth buying.
                Make sure to get a capture ball from the general store too if you plan on making use of powerful allies like this. That way when you leave the dungeon or travel across the overworld you can bring your buddy along in the capture ball instead of abandoning it.

                  If you really want monsters to fight for you, try playing Q. (Hehehe. It's ridiculously difficult.)

                      (2) Are artifact creation scrolls better at deeper levels
                      1 - yes, definitely read them at deeper levels. The deeper the better

                      2 - yes, as far as know (Artifact creation scrolls are exceedingly rare these days)

                        And if that is so, then to get the best loot, should uniques be avoided for as long as possible
                        It's okay, there are over 200 uniques. You're going to fight a lot of them.

                          @Mocht-
                          That's not actually true. A good drop by Bullroarer at dl 5 is hugely valuable in comparison to the stuff you already have. At dl 95, Bullroarer has a level 50 drop, which is good, but not as good as the stuff you are already getting from dl 95 vaults.

                          It's quality relative to current equipment that matters, not absolute quality.

                            Agreed, and to extend -- if I'm at dlvl 5 with only starting gear, kill Bullroarer, and get a nice enchanted dagger or Gloves of Free Action or something, I'm vastly more likely to survive to make it to dlvl 95, where good items are all over the place and my equipment is already about as good as it's going to get.

                            Even if you're confident in your survival, getting good items early greatly improves the pace of your game. I don't really want to spend any more time in the sub-1000' area than I have to.
