I was tunneling a mineral deposit, or gemstone cache, or whatever those orange asterisks are. It also crashed when I tunneled percentage signs and pound signs. Um, I just made a new character and the game doesn't crash when I tunnel those things now and I haven't downloaded any new version.

Can't believe I missed that one. Only an annoyance, fortunately - I'll wait until there's a game breaker before updating again.

The tunnelling code was pretty dodgy before, so results were unpredictable. I hope it's fixed now.

Just had a hang when illuminating a room with the lamp (a one off so far), unfortunately I hadn't saved for a while so lost a CL, Colannon, some really useful randart gloves and a titanic battle against Carcharoth... grrrrr. It got as far as giving me the message, but hung before the map updated if that helps.

I've currently wearing aggravating +10 to speed and Int (!!!!) armour - thankfully I picked a Dark-Elf for this one

By the way, your new dragons are really liking my 3d9 Halberd of *Slay* Dragon

Well that well and truly put a jinx on it. Having lost my progress, I got a bit sloppy and took on a pit, mainly full of Winged Dragons of Storms... My first breath of storms killed me. Should have healed the previous turn - however didn't realise that the dragon I had nearly killed (and hence would have had weak breath) had just swapped places with a healthy one.

Interesting, is it a FAangband-only feature or Vanilla and ToME (as I know you played it) have it too?

That's standard for all breathing monsters in (AFAIK) all *bands - breath damage is a fraction of monster HP.

                  Yes, it does help.

There are three messages: "You activate it...", "The lantern wells with clear light...", "You are surrounded by a white light." Did you get all of them?

I believe I had all of them - though of course I cannot guarantee it!

Yeah, that's what I expected. There's a bunch of field of view processing that goes on with lighting the room, and I've had to do mess with that stuff to do the small device mode. Let me know if it happens again, and any clues as to why - sporadic crashes are a bugger to track down.

                        hey Nick,

The Sang terrain flags makes the FA 033 game i was loading show up with (mostly) unknown grids.

only thing showing is the path.

[Edit] hadto move down a level and the graf is ok on that one.

                        best,

Yes, I think I have just worked out why that happened - I failed to provide a translation from the old order of features in terrain.txt to the new. Going down a level was the perfect solution...

Yes, that's because there are slightly different versions of these for (a) difficulty of openeing (doors) and (b) dungeon generation reasons (walls). They probably should all be amalgamated into one for the knowledge screens.

I tried playing Fangband on may laptop but seem to have some problems. The arrow keys seem to be acting strangely and the game crashes when I try to run ("." and then key arrow).

I'm assuming this is windows - XP, or vista? There have been sporadic problems with arrows and running in XP, probably related to pref files. It doesn't seem to be very predictable, and I have the same pref files as Vanilla, so I'm not quite sure how to fix it.

You may have better luck with running using shift + arrow; there's also the option of exploring by using the mouse.
