This is an important skill for anyone wanting to beat any variant of Angband .

Try to find a sling of extra might. Or even better, a sling of buckland. I don't use throwing too much. I always thought that it was underpowered, specially at stat gain and later. I think that in O throwing works well at all depths, because you can find better throwing weapons in the late game (storm hammers or something like that)

Rogues get a bonus multiplier, so a x2 sling is really +3. There isn't quite a good way to explain all the bonus damage rogues get with slings on the character screen, but if you examine the weapon, it is fully explained.

Rogues also get huge damage bonuses on well balanced throwing weapons, and they can be stored in the quiver so they don't take up a full inventory slot. I occasionally get bug reports from players because their rogues do so much damage thorwing the *thanc artifact daggers they think the game is broken. Maybe not so much at 2000', but in the earlier levels, such as 700-1000 a rogue with some 'thanc artifacts can one-shot kill everything but the uniques at those levels.
Nice....now to round up a nice sling...

Just a mini update : my list of uniques that ive run from...Medusa and Beorn. I almost had BearBoy but nexus Zs crashed the party unexpectedly. On a brighter note, creeping coin pits + no-sell = kaching, omg.

Great weapon, though. That will help a lot.
Yeah desperately looking for SI and filling my resist holes before I hit dl40. Just got chased out of a lesser vault by Medusa...lured her into a corridor where she couldnt summon and she still kept knockin the snot out of me, gulping !speeds didnt help much. At least I bailed before she killed me, right?

    Thanks for comments!

Can I recommend you upload your dump to the ladder? Tab at the top, then fill in the "submit your character" section.

Nick makes a great point. Setting traps in NPP, like O or FA, works best when the creature is out-of-sight, so they don't see the trap being set.

I never thought about it before, but a rogue can probably have a lot of fun in a NPP labyrinth. Those levels are a trap-setting paradise. I now have to try this.

Update: cl25, dl35 and moving down, bought a =FA from BM....Got chain mail of rfire from an orc unique, and boy does the RNG love giving me labyrinths, ugh. No other new gear aside from a couple !stat finds..just avoided a monster pack of nexus Z's, yay me. Doofus is rollin steadily along, this may be my new fav. class

EDIT:Another thing I hate: frickin phantoms.
