I found a stack of arrows in the dungeon, which pseudoed as {uncursed}. I cast Gauge Magic on them and find that they're (+12, +5). So, the next time I'm in Bree, I sell one of them (to id the rest of the stack); the shopkeeper offers me 228 gp for one arrow. He IDs it, and they turn out to be arrows of Execute Demon (1d6) (+12,+5). The weird thing was that he said "damn" when I sold it to him - even though he was getting a ego arrow instead of the mere good arrow he was expecting. I sell another arrow - and can only get 64 gp for it. It looks like Execute Demon actually *decreases* the value of the arrow?
EDIT: The same thing happened with arrows of slay evil this time. He seems to over estimate the price a lot, IMHO.
Note to self: reported in SVN.
[Un]angband 0.6.2 beta 2 has been released!

The rapid-fire notes mainly happens while you're still in Hobbiton, checking out those shops. It slows down a good bit after that. It did seem to me, the first time around, that the notes showed up too frequently (it seemed like every few steps), but the info they give really is very helpful when you're new to the game. Personally, I'd be for keeping the 'Magical Bags' note - it gave much more information than could fit in the description, and it's unique enough that even those who've played other roguelikes probably wouldn't have seen anything like it.
Oh and by the way, there's the option to disable those notes, if it annoys you enough, although you may have already seen that. I think it's in the birth options.Leave a comment:

Here's a bug, perhaps: I got a disease/curse of wit loss, and I can't find any way to cure it (every time I leave a level, I lose one point of WIS). I tried buying a service of Cure Disease, a service of Remove Curse, a service of Healing - nothing. I tried wandering around for several thousand turns for it to go away - nothing. (Aren't diseases supposed to go away after waiting a long enough time?) After my wisdom had gone from 17 down to 3, three times (I quaffed a potion of Intelligence and Wisdom once it reached three), I gave up.
I found this thread from 2006, and followed the suggestion of putting the S:CURE_DISEASE:22 line in the remove curse spell and when I bought a remove curse service this time, it cured it. (Though that thread was talking about an AC rather than WIS curse.) Is this how it supposed to work, or did I just unintentionally cheat? If so, how *are* you supposed to cure this thing? (Currently, remove curse only has a "S:CURE_DISEASE:17" line, not 22.)
EDIT: I looked in the source and there seems to be a mushroom of restore intelligence and wisdom that might have cured this? I've never ever seen one in game though. I would have assumed that a potion of intelligence and wisdom would have cured this also? It's frustrating to play a mage with a wis of 3 so I have pretty much no mana.
Also, another question:
I found a (Spiderthread) cloak, and after IDing, it tells me:Code:This Cloak weighs 1.0 lbs. It is not damaged by acid. It increases your armor class by 10. It is a useful ego item. You can apply runes to it or enchant it with additional powers.
EDIT: Also, a suggestion:
Make it so that the tval-dependent notes don't show up when finding objects in stores. Whenever I first start a game, the first thing I do is go around to all the shops to see what's available; I'm inundated by notes (because of all the objects in the shops), most of which are hardly appropriate to the situation. Eg. today, in one of the shops, there was a bag of holding. Once I leave the shop and take a dozen steps, I get a note saying "Ah, so you've found a magical bag. ...", which would probably be rather confusing to newbies.
These notes should only show up when/if you buy something from a store or find it on the ground.Last edited by Big Al; March 28, 2008, 19:00.Leave a comment:

Doesn't turning off disturb_detect work?
I'd turn it off by default in level 0 wilderness, but IIRC you won't ever encounter the warning, unless you cast a detection spell, and if you cast such a spell, I assume you know what you are doing...Leave a comment:

Well, you are a bunch of cunning hackers, but I like you, anyway.
I've made Timo a Man of Gondor and done all the other tweaks I've written about. Thanks for the help.
Well, I had some troubles with making your nick High-Elvish enough, so I've taken first letters only. The shopkeepers' nick, in turn, represents your being torn between two kinds of trade...Of course, if you have a better idea, just let me know...

Thank you all for kind words and I'm glad you like it. But you know what, I feel a little bit pissed off. I wanted to lure crowds of enthusiasts to Unangband (and to thank Anne, who got hold of her own shop first of all the new shopkeepers) and instead I attracted a bunch of hackers that break into my SVN and spy on my files instead of laboriously killing monsters, traveling through wilderness and discovering their shops in due time in distant forgotten cities.
Next time I'm encrypting the file. And next time everybody fixes the bugs he reports --- if you can spy on SVN files, you can fix your bugs, as well.
Still, this was fun, anyway.
I tried to find my shop - truly, but after I died about four times in a row and still hadn't seen it, I cheated. Honestly though, unangband is the only variant that has keep my interest in anything more than a passing fad. I appreciate all the work you guys have done and am rather quite honoured if you had put my name in the name (which I still haven't found). I only looked at the edit files because you asked about it first...
EDIT: Please also (unless I'm missing it somewhere,) make an option to turn off the new "Are you sure? [y/n]/This doesn't feel safe." prompt when exploring unexplored territory. It's a nice idea but I really can't stand it. Especially when you get it in eg. Hobbiton where it's all safe anyway.Last edited by Big Al; April 8, 2008, 04:23.Leave a comment:

Hey I didn't cheat ... sort of ... at least not that way. I downloaded the newest version, started a new character and then got impatient and looked at the lib\edit\shop_own.txt file

Well I'm honored. And truth be told, that's a time-honored method that newspapers use because it does work. People -love- to see their name in print where everyone else can see it. Makes them feel a little famous, and appreciated, too, and in turn it tends to boost sales. Who knows, you may get some new players out of this yet!Leave a comment:

so I changed it to Rizwan the Hunt, along with some other nicks. Then to Rizwan the Hunter, then I remembered why you got the worst shop --- because you were shy about explaining your race and shop choices and perhaps even didn't specify your preferred shop initially. So much about ego stroking.
Any mention in the game is an honor especially for one that has been playing for more than a decade (on and off) without having a single win to show for it.
As for the shop and race choices, I put those in the poll and then said to myself ok now to explain them but real world intruded and then I totally forgot about them. So I will post those soon.
But seriously, GREAT WORK, all of you guys
