    List of all Angband variants

    Hello all

I have for a number of years maintained a document that lists all (or as many as I could find) Angband variants and their versions (including Vanilla).

Maybe you might find it interesting to browse through it. And as I no longer am planning to keep updating it, I thought to post it here so that:

    1. If you spot errors (which there are of course ), they can be corrected.

    2. If anyone is interested in continuing to keep it updated you are welcome to do so.

I have it in Open Office and MS Word formats so I attach both formats in zipfiles to this post.

That's more than just a list... I hope it finds a home somewhere visible.

Thanks. I have put quite a lot of work in it.

Also, if anyone have any questions about some entries I'll try to answer as best I can.

        PS
I bet that there are some variants there that some you haven't heard of.

Is there scope for making use of it here? Or on rephial?

If anybody can find some use for it, they are very welcome to do so. That is one of the reasons I posted it here. Perhaps reformat it, transform it to a searchable Excel-document..., whatever you may think of.

Some more notes: One thing that is lacking in this document is time data, when different versions came out. I guess that I found that not very interesting or essential, and also it would be quite difficult to put in several years after the fact.

Those entries that have a detailed description are games that I started up and wrote down the various data. The ones with only a version number are those that I couldn't get an example of, or couldn't compile or they were only for non-Mac computers.

All information was of course searched on the Internet, and maybe much of it is still available. I think that I started to take the first notes around 2002 or 2003 and since Angband has a history that goes back 10 years before, there is much that is uncertain, especially about the early variants.

Actually, I made the latest updates today, before posting it here, so that it would be just that, up to date, hopefully

OK, here's an idea, but it's ridiculously ambitious.
                1. Get the dates of release for all these variants
                2. Get the source code as well
                3. Plot it out as a big tree
                4. Turn it into a git repository, with indvividual variants as branches (or maybe subtrees?)
                5. Add relic's list as the associated wiki

I might actually have a go at that some time when I'm bored.

I like this table structure with columns for lineage and rows for time:

                    Or this graphical representation:

There is also an outdated site with some variants and additional information:

Also, there is an extensive list on wikipedia:

                    Impressive list!
