    Quickband 2.0.5 released

    Hello all

Quickband 2.0.5 source and windows binaries are now available at oook. OS/X port to follow.

    In this version:

    - New race: Sprite
    - New monsters (some dangerous)
    - Useful new objects, including the notorious wand of wall building
    - Various tweaks and rebalancing

Since 2.0.3, Quickband also has the Barbarian and Berserker classes, who access their powers by building up Rage, and the Sage class, who can cast spells of all three realms. Plus new Maiar race and new versions of Half-Elf, High-Elf and Dunedain.

    Enjoy,
    A.

    Awesome, congrats on making release!

Also, I think it is worthwhile to get the game on Roguebasin at this point such that is shows up in the news feed---for plenty of people that is their only known window into what is alive and kicking in the world of Roguelikes.

Nicely done! I hope the playerbase increases and you get some good feedback going forward from release to release. Ideally, every new release of every variant here in Rephial should be sure to get duly counted and get seen on that page as things continue to liven up in these fine parts.

At your leisure, I'd recommend updating the page here and there with some attention grabbing facts and figures---things like playable races, latest patch inclusions, roadmap parts getting ticked off, you get the idea.

          Hi,
there is a little bug in melee1.c, line 3989:
there should not be m_name in the function msg_print, which chokes on the extra argument

No idea why, but I enter a certain part of the dungeon and I get "it drones angrily", "you are confused", "you hear a shriek of agony", "it is more stunned", etc repeating each other in strange orders... And it takes literally about 50-100 -more-'s to get past it and then take a turn and run away.

What is it? Did you add some monster that this sounds like? I did not see anything in the room when this happened and I do not have a detect monsters anything since I am a warrior... Just thought you might find it interesting, maybe a bug in how some new monster is acting... Maybe a "G"?

Ah, here is how it starts:

              You hear a far-off shriek!
              It hurts you!
              It scuttles about.
              It is stunned.
              It grunts with pain.

rinse and repeat with my last post. No idea what it is... Don't see any monsters anywhere...

I also saw this and I also have no clue to what caused it, sorry. I just wanted to say that it wasn't a one-time thing, at least a two-time I played a ranger with detect living (?) but I could not notice anything in particular that I suspected to be the culprit.

It is the shriek of the Banshee! This horrible monster can hurt you even out of LOS. Track it down before it kills you, or run away.

All those messages are pesky, though. I'll look into suppressing them.

Is it possible that it can wail at anything on the level? As if it can attack out of LoS for an infinite range? Something just seems wrong....

Yes it can wail as soon as it wakes up, affecting everything on the level (including you), and will keep doing so until you hunt it down.

I really enjoy this variant, it's the first *band I ever won. I play with tiles and I was wondering if there is plans to support some of the newer tilesets?

I ran into the same issue building for the comp. Linux/gcc needs this change to melee1.c

                              Problems when unpacking with 7-Zip

When I unpack the folder, I get several error messages that certain files cannot be output. This includes the .exe file, several .hlp files and font files.

Also, the unpacked folder ended up in the virtual store of Windows Vista, which you can only access by searching for "appdata".

I am already using the latest version of 7-Zip (9.20). Any ideas? At the moment I cannot even use the built-in unpacker because 7-Zip automatically handles all .zip files.

EDIT: Workaround: Unpack to the desktop.
