    Quickband 2.0.4 released

    Hello all

Quickband 2.0.4 source and windows binaries are now available at oook. OS/X port to follow.

    In this version:

    - New monster spells and some smarter monster tactics
    - If you are very poisoned, you lose multiple HP per turn
    - Teleport Other is a bolt not a beam
    - Branded ammo are more likely to be destroyed on fire
    - New armor 'of thorns' and weapons of vampiric draining and mana burn
    - When an Elf or High-Elf pseudo-IDs a bow or arrows, they fully ID it
    - When a Hobbit pseudo-IDs a sling or shots, they fully ID it
    - When an Dwarf pseudo-IDs a helmet or heavy armor, they fully ID it
    - When a Gnome zaps a wand or staff, they fully ID it
    - Half-troll casters can wear heavier equipment without losing SP
    - Characters no longer gain XP for casting spells
    - Tweaks to artifact rarity (go deeper for more reward)

Since 2.0.3, Quickband also has the Barbarian and Berserker classes, who access their powers by building up Rage, and the Sage class, who can cast spells of all three realms. Plus new Maiar race and new versions of Half-Elf, High-Elf and Dunedain.

    Enjoy,
    A.

I've taken to playing gnomes now, and the ability to fully id wands on use will be useful to make money to buy spellbooks 3 and 4 with. I often don't have enough cash by the time I get to level 11 when I can cast ID, so I usually have to scrounge around for enough dough, this will make things much smoother. Now I'll be able to do my first recall as soon as I hit clev11, not sit around and wait for 660 gold.

Zapped a staff of Light to ID it, I IDed the light, but it doesn't say how many charges I have. Wands work fine.

                    A couple of requests/suggestions:

allow [b]rowsing the spellbooks to give you info on the spells. As a new player I'm not familiar with the druid spells, for example. Playing the Sage comp character, and faced with the choice of spells, I have no way to compare the similar spells in different books.

I'm pretty sure [O]pening a new file doesn't work, even for an active character I had to [I]mport it. (on OSX).

I'll see what I can do about the spellbooks. It would certainly be helpful for sage.

'o' for open is just a windoze feature (it always annoyed me that you had to use the mouse to start the game on Win)

I must be a glutton for punishment, but still trying to get the comp character past CL 10. I've noticed a few things-

Wands of sleep monster seem pretty lame. Monsters can fall asleep, wake up, and attack you all in the same turn. Seems like the wand should either have no effect, or you should at least get a turn.

Respawning is pretty harsh. Don't remember having uniques and big escorts respawning in V, but I'm basically learning there's no such thing as a safe area in the dungeon if at 150' you can clear out a room to be a rest zone and pop back in to find it packed with > 20 orcs and a unique.

Iron spikes: To be honest I never used these in V, but given the comp character is so weak at the beginning I figured it might be useful trick. However even things like low level 'w's and 'a's can bust down doors. I understand that the sweet spot for spikes being useful must be impossibly small in quickband, but it might be nice if it was a little bigger than it is now.

The combo of breeders and nasty invisible things makes the early levels a real challenge!

                              I'll look into spikes.

Don't think sleep is working well at all, needs a reassessment of the entire mechanism, will address. In the meantime confusion is more effective.
