    OAngband and power-diving

I have to say, this variant is cool. It has heavy weapons that actually act like heavy weapons, rogues and assassins who really can sneak about in the dark, all kinds of cool stuff.

But it's also lacking in a few options.

I usually play ToME, and when I do I tend to play fast - speed-leveling in the mountains + Ironman rooms, that sort of thing. O doesn't have the Ironman rooms option, doesn't have a wilderness, and generally seems to enforce a slower pace of play... Which I find annoying. Especially since I want to try out all the cool special abilities you can get at higher levels.

So... Is there any faster way to dive in O? Is Ironman rooms hidden somewhere in the options screen, or is there anything else I can do to increase the frequency of OoD monsters and whatnot?

(Or should I just play FAA as a high elf or something? )

To my knowledge, the "Ironman Rooms" option (which forces every room to be a pit or vault) is exclusive to Zangband and its derivatives.

The vast majority of Angband variants have a much slower power curve than ToME does. Things like ToME's mountain zones where you can safely powerlevel up to the mid-20's aren't available. If you want to advance quickly, just take all the down staircases you see.

Autoscum is fairly brutal in O - just turning that on should help.

      There's also thrall mode

Trying FAA... What it needs IMHO is a ToME/Heng style overland map.

(I guess I kind of like ToME's super-fast-leveling brokenness. What can I say, when you're playing in limited time it pays to be munchkin. :P )

          Illogical thread resurrect!

Um, is there actually any ironman option in O at all? I couldn't seem to find one. I dl'ed the current 110u version.

I thought I would cut my ironman teeth on brutal, brutal glass shardsy Oangband. But, I suppose I could just do it on-my-honor, if no such option exists.

No, there is none - I had to introduce it from scratch for FA.

Of course, in FA the ultimate ironman game has already been played

It is a truly awesome story.
