    NPP 0.50 Problem

The NPP forums have been jacked up for several weeks, and I'm not able to log in or re-register there. Hopefully someone will see this my post here and fix the forums.

Anyway, I just downloaded the lastest version (0.50) and I'm having problems with the extra windows. I always play with windows 1 - 5 on for various information displays. With the new version, these windows refuse to display, although windows 6 & 7 will come up.

Anybody know how I can fix this?

    Thanks

I had this problem a few weeks ago; emailing Kurt fixed it for me

I don't know anything about the window problem, though.

You can fill in a mail form at the forum.

I think I know why the displays refuse to show up.

I just unzipped NPP and when I first started the game, the terminals 1-5 appeared on my secondary monitor. It is possible that if you don't have 2 monitors, Windows still puts the terminals of screen.

It might be that Jeff left in his own config files or .prf files or something that cause this. Quick and dirty fixes could be to hook up a second monitor into your computer so you can drag the terminals to your primary monitor, if possible, or to copy NPPAngband.exe and the edit folder on a previous, working, 0.5.0 WIP installation to "update" it to the current 0.5.0.

Forgive me for my denseness, but where is there a "mail form" at the forum? I don't see it. Thanks again for your help.

My bad - you can't see it unless you're logged in. I have PM'd you.

Thank-you for your response. I think I'll wait for a fix on this. I don't have a spare monitor. Funny, do alot of people play with two monitors?

I don't know what I might be missing out on if copy just my .exe and edit folders over to whatever previous version I have.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be missing out on anything or breaking anything by going the "update" route.

Besides, you can always back up the WIP version's folder before "updating". Or you can PM me your email, and I can zip a copy of my working NPP folder and e-mail it to you.

I think you are right. I play with 5 windows open on my secondary monitor. I didn't think I copied over any pref files, but that must be the problem. For those that have downloaded NPP 050, I am at work now, but in about 10 hours I will let you all know what file to delete, and I will fix the zip file.

Thre is an extra file in both the NPPangband 050 directory causing this problem. It is in both the source code and the windows executable zip files.

It is in the root NPPAngband directory, and it is titled "NPPAngband", and the file type is configuration settings". It is about 2 KB in size (note the windows binary has the same name and is in the same folder, but is over 1 MG in size.) Deleting this configuration file solves the problem.

I will go upload new zip files now.

So, to state the obvious, the final NPP 050 has been officially released, and I will do a proper announcement with a more detailed desceiption of the changes soon.
