Obviously variant maintainers can do whatever they want. If they want easy and simple variant that differs from vanilla only a little bit it's OK, but I bet both Sangband and ToME would not benefit from that.

I was more looking for an opinion on how easy Sang's display system would be to steal

But not good any other way. Don't let the game get into way of RL.

I haven't done a lot of maintenance in the last longish while, but I'm going to be doing none for the next 6 months of so; I'm travelling internationally. I will be unemployed when I return, so I'll probably get some more code changes in then.
