    Are there any "modern" variants?

    Hey guys, Bohemico here!

First time posting after around 15 years of playing vanilla.
Recently I've started experimenting with variants, and while I'm amazed at the innovation and customization all the variants have, I'm surprised most of them are based on older variants or older versions of vanilla, which make them miss a ton of QOL changes vanilla has gone through in the latest versions.
I'm talking damage numbers in weapons, percentage hunger, in-screen feelings, 32x32 tilesets (This one is the one I'm missing most, and Bigtile mode generally is kinda buggy), detailed tilesets, and surely other features I'm missing.

They're still incredibly playable and I'm enjoying them a lot, but I was wondering if there was any variant that would feature these QOLs?
I hope I don't offend any variant creator or maintainer - They're doing incredible jobs on their games - I'm just looking for something rather particular.

Thank you for taking the time to read the post, and I wish you win all your next runs!

There's faangband as of version 2.0 and I think tactical angband and xygos come to mind.

Thanks to both, I've been playing different variants over the last week, and while they all hold their charm, I realized I like having options the most. I found both FAangband and NarSil pretty limiting in terms of playable races and classes (Perfectly reasonable for the setting and cool differences between them), which other variants tend to flesh out more.

I'm still in the quest of finding my perfect variant, although now I know more about what I'm looking for: The one I've had the most fun so far is FrogComposband, the sheer amount of options are just too tempting, and it has some QoL that I've learned to love, namely Mogaminator(my beloved) and macro keys setting in-game. My main issue is that I feel its wilderness is kind of a mess, I absolutely LOVED FAangband's idea for the wilderness.

I guessed it would be nice to post an update here, so that's the idea of this reply.

I tried some multiplayer variants (Mangband, PWMangband and Tangaria) and while they were great (Tangaria was my fav from the 3), the actions go through a little too slow for my taste, with the server sync and whatnot.

I'm surprised at the amount of Japanese variants the game has, and the amount of experiments that the game has sparked. Loving the community for all this.

Thanks again for the recommendations - I'm picking up variants from https://roguebasin.com/index.php/Lis...gband_variants - I saw PowerWyrm in another post talking about this. It doesn't have NarSil in it, so maybe it's missing some other cool games?

That list is missing Gensouband (Touhou Hengband) - another Japanese Hengband variant with many classes/races (not as many as Frogcomposband, but you can play as one of 100+ Touhou characters with their own abilities instead of picking race/class).
