    Best yet in Daaj!

Well, my Maia warrior finally met his doom at 1550 ft at the hands of Gorbag, ---- having got to level 28 in the process.

While this probably isn't much compared to most people who've finished the game multiple times, ---- especially considdering that I was playing a Maia, I'm stil pretty pleased, sinse it's about three times further than I've got before.

I also know exactly what killed me.

A bloody firehound decided to frazle my scroll of word of recall. No, it couldn't be my 25 phase door scrolls or any of my resistance scrolls, ---- it had to be that one!

This meant the last three levels were taken at a constant dive, and Gorbag really won because I ran out of consumables, ---- ie, potions of cure crytical and phase door scrolls.

This was also slightly irritating as I had a blessed two handed sword in my house who's description said "there's more to be revealed" or something like, ---- I just didn't have any *identify scrolls, ---- well not until after my WoR got roasted, ---- then I go and find two of the things!

Stil, I'm pleased with where I got, ----- things are obviously improving.

lesson: carry several word of recall scrolls. I usually carry at least five. Even without word of recall scrolls, it's usually pretty easy to avoid orc uniques that are too tough for you. so run away. That's two valuable lessons.

I hope you won't be dissapointed to learn that the maia race is being removed from DaJAngband. In the next version, it will be replaced by the golem race: generally pretty tough, but it doesn't regenerate hit points naturally at all.

Why? There's nothing wrong with having an easy race. A no-regeneration race sounds interesting, but why should it replace the easy race?

Heh, took some inspiration from Crawl's "deep dwarves"? Or came up with the idea on your own?
You read the scroll labeled NOBIMUS UPSCOTI...
You are surrounded by a stasis field!
The tengu tries to teleport, but fails!

I've barely played Crawl and don't know anything about Crawl's deep dwarves. Why would deep dwarves not be able to regenerate hit points?

@Matthias: The game already has dunadan and high elves for easy races. Then again, I could replace the power sprite instead. That's a novelty race that doesn't serve much purpose..

True Will, I didn't actually know how destructive some creatures could be to equipment, ---- as that's th deepest I've got, ---- I'll know better next time.

I'm fairly certain if I'd had sufficient consumables, gorbag would've got his comeuppance, ---- but there's always next time.

As far as Maia removal goes, well on the one hand I'll miss the stat boosts, but on the other it does offer some interesting resistance options too, ---- which I'm guessing is your intention in removing the race.

From a Tolkeen perspective though, I do like Maia in the game. While I know both Vanilla and Daaj aren't precisely Tolkeen perfect, I do appreciate having Tolkeen races in there nonetheless.

how about, ---- at some later point, re-introducing Maia, but including some fatal flaw to balance their super stat boosts.

In the books it is stated that Maia such as Saruman and Gandalf, ---- as well as the Balrogs and others, have a hard time resistance corruptions of power and turning to evil.

You could institute this in the game by having Maia take more damage from specifically evil attacks such as Darkness, Chaos or nether, and possibly giving them an increased propensity to status effects like drain life, slime and silver.

Of course, if your running out of slots for other races, ---- fair enough, I'd much rather see races added than replaced, ---- this was however just a thought, ---- sinse usually the super strong races have balanced stats rather than lack of effects.
