I had played Angband back in 2003 and only recently looked into it's latest develoment. I think I was playing 2.9.x. After looking at the variants list, I decided to give a few of them a try (Sengband, Zangband, even Animeband).
So far, I have quite impressed with Hengband even though the last release was in 2004. The long list of data under the "~" key is quite impressive; I don't remember such a detailed list of information before in Angband. The shear number of classes, races, personalities you can play as is just amazing. And the addidtion of the "world and wilderness" is a nice change to the little isolated town in Angband with drunks but no women.
So far I am still messing around Yeek's Cave and haven't left the local area. Still, so far, it is an excellent game. It seems harder than V but then maybe I'm just rusty. There also seems to be more $ in the walls. Maybe that's just me.
I was surprised to find Farmer Maggot's dogs in Yeek's cave as I hadn't seen Farmer Maggot in town. Just ran into Smeagol....
Ok, I had a question on projectiles. Plain arrows have a (5/5) at the end of their description, and I just saw some ego arrows with a (18/22). What does that mean? I looked in the guides in Hangband but it didn't mention that. I searched online and haven't found the answer.
