    Daajangband questions?

I think Daajangband is the varient I've played most thus far, ---- sinse I like the extra options and classes, but also the way it is fairly close to the original and thus is a good way of learning the game for me.

I just do have a couple of questions though specifically about Daaj i'm afraid, ----- appologies if they sound completely off (I'm stil new at this).

Firstly, I assume Daaj includes psudo Id feelings about items, ---- ie, you keep certain things in your inventory long enough and they get marked as "cursed" "average" or whatever. It's just that thus far I haven't particularly noticed them, ----- though admitedly that might just be because I've mostly been playing as a Paladin and maybe that's a class which doesn't get them too quickly.

Secondly, I'm missing the "always show lists" command, so am having to press star all the time when casting a prayer, equipping or dropping or using items etc. I've checked the options menue and there doesn't seem to be a show lists command, ---- is there a keyboard toggle or something similar I've missed?

thirdly, I noticed in the readme it mentions the "no selling of items" option is mentioned as coming from a patch.

I'd love to know if this patch is available for Vanilla Angband as well, sinse I'd personally much rather explore, mine and slaughter for my gold than dragging loads of objects up and down from the dungeon to sell.

    Sorry for the irritating questions.

Most classes do not get much in the way of pseudo until character level 10. You need to get deeper and increase your level. The big pseudo difference in DaJ is that jewelry also pseudos.

DaJ is based upon something I put out, angband 3.0.9e . It is available at rephial somewhere, but you might as well stick to DaJ unless you cannot stand the stealhy monsters and/or reduced see invisible. I believe that there is a plan to add a "no selling" birth option to Vanilla, but it was not in the dev version the last time I checked. It makes sense to work out the selling price issues before deciding how to balance "no selling" in comparison.

I have done a lot more work since 3.0.9e, and some of it will go into Vanilla, but I've been saying that for 6 months. Real life has been too distracting for me to focus to write good code.

Psuedo speed in DaJAngband is mostly the same as in V3.0.9. I haven't played V3.1 much, but I don't think it's very different. The paladin actually has slightly faster psuedo in DJA than in V3.0.9.
DaJangband doesn't have the "always show lists" option because V3.0.9 doesn't have it. I can add it for the next version though.

      My old variant DaJAngband:
http://sites.google.com/site/dajangbandwebsite/home (defunct and so old it's forked from Angband 3.1.0 -I think- but it's probably playable...)

        Thanks people.

I'll look forward to no selling being added to vanilla, ---- but in the mean time I will stick with Daaj, ----- especially sinse I'm stil playing with a Maia, lol!

I didn't actually know Daaj was based on 3.9, I sort of assumed sinse it had a release date it was based on 3.1, ---- though this does explain why a few other options from 3.1 don't seem to be there, ---- such as the list onscreen items with right brackit command (one I've found helpful, ---- - though not essential).

Again, I'll look forward to the changes.

I actually psudoed an item soon after I made this post, ---- which makes me feel a litle idiotic for not waiting a bit longer, ---- so thanks for bearing with my impatience.

As to diving deeper, ---- yes, I do indeed need to, though sadly my last character came to a sticky end at 250 ft thanks to me chasing a kobold shaman into a room full of power sprites and straw golems, then getting confused to death and running out of scrolls of phase door (I now know 5 isn't enough), ---- but back we go again, ---- and at least the monster memory is getting a good workout, ---- lol!

why do you need a patch to not sell things? just don't sell them. is it just that the temptation is so unavoidable you can't bear not selling them if you can? seems strange to me. don't want to sell things then don't. i don't really get the whole not selling things bit, but whatever shakes your martinis

The no-selling patch increases gold drops so that you're still able to afford to buy stuff. The idea, I think, is to remove the whole 'drag a bunch of junk to town to sell' part of the game without changing the more strategically interesting buying part of the game.

It does change the "strategically interesting buying"--the variance of available cash in the early game is a lot smaller. No more drops of a "superb" ego weapon by Farmer Maggot to give you a leg up on your ironman game.

Yes, Pampl is right. I must confess I have no patience for selling items.

It might be that I'm lousy at inventory management, but I always find myself with an inventory of stuff I'm waiting to psudo or to use, so no space to carry items to the town to sell. And on the occasions I have tried selling things, I get almost nothing for them which can be very frustrating.

I could say it might just be that sinse it takes longer for me to physically look around and read the screen anyway, I want to get onto the good stuff, ---- meeting monsters and finding stuff rather than penny pinching, ---- or it might be that I have no patience!

I'm slightly surprised to here that the no selling option actually reduces cash in the early game. As I've said, I've always found myself getting virtually nothing for the items I sell, ---- certainly not enough to warrent them taking up valuable inventory space.

It is true that it principley means you can't sell any starting equipment before you enter the dungeon if the shop's got something better, ----- but it's worth it when trauling through the dungeon, picking up gold.

Perhaps the tweaks to the pricing and improvement of identifying by use will make the selling and inventory space business seem less tortuous in future, ---- I'll have to wait and see.
