I use 'old tiles' on vanilla, so I'm looking for a variant that would give me a bit more than pure ASCII. All the screenshots from everyone's variant are straight text so I can't tell which has the option if any.

Most do; ascii only is a limitation of the screenshot system here on oook. On the other hand, the forums can show shots like this:
