Well, phooey... Just had a bit of a setback. Using bitmaps instead of plain text output may not work so great after all. I noticed some very lousy performance on a couple of machines. I'm thinking that the bitmap performance may be tied to the quality of your video card. My primary machine doesn't experience any noticeable slowdowns, but these other two machines both have lousy video cards. Processor speed doesn't appear to be a major factor.
Of course Vista users probably won't notice any performance issues since you need a decent video card just to run Vista

I uploaded the file to rapidshare just in case it randomly goes missing again:

There seems to be some kind of bug with the "display mode" setting of this version; when set to anything other than "Fullscreen, large map", the game crashes on startup with the message "No main window definition found!"
It worked fine in the other version of sangband, so I'm assuming this has something to do with the display of the fonts..Comment

Just in case anybody finds this topic like I did just now, I include the file here:
I promise to try and keep it online as long as possible, but it's a free filehost and they may discontinue their services for example. An official mirror would be nice, but hey, this is better than knowing there is a fix, but you can't access it.
EDIT:
Not even a year and the webhost went down. Re-hosted somewhere else now.
EDIT2:
And it's gone again after a year. Re-hosted. Let's see how long this lasts.Last edited by Fuma; December 30, 2013, 19:20.www.snowleopard.org - International Snow Leopard TrustComment
