    Variant maintainers group game

    Hi

True confession - I have never beaten V. In fact the closest I have come is to beat NPP with a bit of save scumming. I would like to get an honest V win, and I wouldn't be surprised if one or two other variant developers were in a similar position.

With that in mind... Would other variant maintainers like to play a group game of V? I am thinking of something like this:

    - start a game of V
    - play 1000 turns, acting in a generally cautious way and not mashing buttons
    - post the savefile
    - another variant maintainer takes the next 1000 turns
    - repeat until Morgoth is dead.

    Who's in?

Sounds interesting. A few points come to mind.

    - Why just maintainers? I'd think others would be interested.
    - What happens when the character dies during step 2? (I think the 'driver' at the time should be named and shamed )
    - How do you decide the starting race / class?
    Currently turning (Angband) Japanese.

This sounds like a great way to set people up. I'd spend my turns powerdiving to dl 99, avoiding all contact. 1000turns up, hand it off to the next guy.

This is the worst idea I've ever heard in my life. I'm in.

How about two teams of non-winners, competing against each other. The mighty maintainers on one side, and the lowly, mere players, on the other. Post running progress reports here in the forum. Tagging out after a half hour of real time play might be a better idea than a turn count.

I've seen something similar done with a TBS:

              - post a starting savefile
              - everybody plays x turns and posts the savefile
              - everybody looks at all the saves and votes on the best (or best and worst in alternate rounds, deaths are disqualified as losing rounds as are rounds everyone agrees are hopeless eg. stunned-confused in a hallway between a gmm and an ancient bronze dragon)
              - everyone plays from the voted save for another x turns
              - repeat until the game is won or nobody survives a round
One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to bind them.
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness interrupt the movie.

Slightly modify this and add it to Buzzkill's idea of a contest = Tag Team Angband Competition! (the name could use some work.. Angband Scramble?)

You could have 2-4+ person teams, organize it by rounds that last a set number of turns, first to kill M wins, or what-have-you...

Dammit this forum gets me so bright-eyed and enthusiastic all the time. I used to be so cool and nonchalant...
