Chest mechanics: Will a chest found on low DL give better stuff if opened deeper ?

I'm still wondering if bringing a chest found in low depth (say DL20) to some cool place, like DL60, would allow me to get better drops from it.

This small exploit looks quite interesting to me, especially with steel chests (or a can of toys), but is it really how it works ?

When I was younger, I often used to read scrolls of acquirement in the town --Hengband quests tend to give you some there-- and suppose I was doing a huge mistake.
So, I changed my habits, and usually went down to the lair or mine to read them... and ended-up thinking it might be worth trying to do the same with steel chests.

I believe chest content is generated when you open it (and this seems to confirm it), but don't have much idea whether the chest's level is part of it's attributes.

Yet, a clue may indicate it is, since I just noticed some DEPTH+30 large steel chest in a quest files (From FrogComposband).
... but the quest creator might also just not have been aware this attribute would have no effect on chests

Thinking about it, I don't even know if character level, max depth reached, or other factors do play a role here.
All I noticed is steel chest tend to produce good stuff, which let me to assume it's generated OOD.

Could some chest expert bring me some lights on the topic ?

The chest certainly remembers where it was found in Angband, and I'm pretty sure this is the same in frog and probably most variants.
