If you're good enough to survive 99 more than once, you're good enough to win!

I mean, genuinely, beating Morgoth is easier than hanging around on a level in the 90s. Probably easier on consumables too.

            r) 14 Rods of Teleport Other
            s) a Ring of Speed <+15>

                 +15 speed.
actually, im not sure i got more powerful, wearing it. I had a ring +8 dmg and +1 blows, that i did not want to part with, so i had to take off my ring of speed +15; we've done this math before and +10 Spd, from +28 to +38, would have meant more damage than what the +15 of the One Ring gives.
But, i had no sSTR, which would have been bad for the Morgoth fight.
(although, in this one particular fight, he barely managed to break my glyphs, while other times he smashes them in a single round)

Oh and four immunities meant the Terrasque was a cakewalk.

I did have a couple of close calls around CL30, got taken down to 20hp and 16hp, but hey, all calculated, right?

Yesterday Sauron dropped the One Ring... how incredibly fitting...

I've been playing Angband since 1996 and have only found the One Ring once. I found it under a pile of rubble in an otherwise mundane dungeon. The funny thing is, I hardly ever bother to clear rubble but there was just something about this pile that made me check. I think it said you've found a plain, gold ring - or something like that. I sort of guessed what I'd found but finally getting the One Ring was very exciting. It made my character super OP and I breezed through the levels and got sloppy. The Tarrasque got me in the end. Finding it was one of the most special moments I've ever experienced playing Angband, but that game after the find was really flat. I suppose it's quite a good simulator of what it was really like to find the ring

I await what embarrassing thing ends up killing your otherwise fortuitous character.
