    Is there a benefit to give known items to shops?

    Hi! This is my first post, a pleasure to start participating here also. i've been playing Angband for several months and the more i know and the more deep i went to the dungeons, i feel that i discover more and more, its fascinatingly overwelming

    One of the questions i have, is, if there's an actual benefit of giving known items to the shops, let say items that i don't need to be recognized, do they sell me cheaper items in the future or something like that?

    I understand that in previous versions, like in Moria, you could sell the items, but from the time i started playing Angband (a couple of versions ago) you could 'give' the items, but not sell them.

    Thank you!

    Hi, and welcome.
    There are 2 possible advantages i can think of:
    1 For wands and staffs that can be carried by the magic shop, but which they are currently out of stock of. They will recharge empty ones and put them on sale. This can be useful in the mid game.
    2 If your home is full, it is (very) temporary extra storage.

    No store improvement features in vanilla though.

      Welcome

      Giving to shops doesn't change the way they stock or their prices. It is useful for two things (I'm sure someone will add more if I've missed them):
      1. The shop will identify unknown flavours of objects or unknown runes;
      2. If you give the magic shop a wand or staff that it normally stocks, it will be recharged and available to buy.

      Being able to sell is actually a birth option which is off by default, because it was decided that this leads to better gameplay - instead of the character filling their inventory with heavy ego items to sell in the shops, they tend to keep extra items like wands and potions which can be situationally useful. You can of course change that option if you choose; some people still prefer selling.
