    Annoying Monsters

I must say, I really hate Umber Hulks! They are so annoying. Like stop destroying the map of the level!

Luckily they aren't terribly hard to deal with, as I am fairly well equipped.

But still... they are almost annoying as magic mushrooms, lice, and tengu.

Xarens and Xorns are going to be a pain too.

I hate them too but probably not because they are annoying, but because they are extremely dangerous.

The most annoying thing around those levels is probably wolf/warg kiting. Seeing wolves waiting you in an open room feels fresh the first time you experience it. Luring them over and over again in every game for years really gets annoying.

Oh and yes.. magic mushroom patches are annoying! I give you that for sure

At least they don't chase after you. I find the new trees a bit annoying. I have taken to simply avoiding them as there is no real benefit or reason to fight them.
In the halls of Angband, Melkor discovers cupcakes and is changed forever.

He commands his servant Sauron to create the One Cupcake of Doom!

Umbers/Xorn/Xarens are only dangerous if you're not properly equipped. I can take them out fairly easy. Forasgil is nice weapon, plus I have arrows of wounding with high to hit and to damage on 'em. So they aren't a problem for me.

Canine and hound behaviors are annoying. Just ran across some water hounds that I had to be careful with. But I took 'em out with some slay animal arrows.

Magic mushrooms are the WORST when they are in mushroom pits.

Hulks are just a drain on resources early on. Because they kill walls, they will often surprise you, and they come way before you have pConf, so unless you have some pre-identified mushrooms of clear mind, you get stuck in the get confused-drink potion-get confused loops until you luck out and pass a saving throw. Otherwise, they are not terribly dangerous, they have little HP and sometimes you can bash them even while confused, depending on your class.

All you need are scrolls of phase door, a source of illumination, and ammo (or a wand). They move at normal speed, so they shouldn't ever get the jump on you

Untrue. They can move through walls, so unless you've got telepathy or have some other means to detect evil at a distance, you can be caught off guard moving through corridors, or they can get a jump on you when you're busy fighting other monsters (such as elemental hounds), especially in pit style rooms.

But yeah, they aren't terribly tough monsters if you can attack at a distance, or have a good enough weapon to take them down before they can confuse you too much.

Because they move at normal speed, the only situations in which they can get a turn on you without you realizing they are present are a) if you are slowed, or b) if you are using a torch and the awake Hulk is exactly 2 tiles away from you and you move towards it. The latter is possible but unlikely; the former is your fault.

But yes, when you start mixing in other enemies in combination with the Hulk is when they get truly dangerous. A Hulk on its own is not much of a threat.

Yep. Also, magic mushrooms are not particularly annoying. Not nearly as annoying as time and nexus vortexes, let alone nexus Q.

Untrue. I've done spot checks before where they were half a screen away, and moved towards me. Also two tiles away could also mean they are on an adjacent corridor. So, say, if you come into a room with an entrance near the bottom, there's a good chance than a Umber Hulk could lurk on the edge of the wall.

Also it's only your fault on slow effects if you are carrying heavy stuff, because many monsters can cast/cause slowing effects.

And I wasn't talking about getting a turn on you as far as engaging anyway. I was talking about encountering them suddenly. Like you're walking down a corridor, and Oop! And Umber Hulk is suddenly next to you or you notice it coming into the room.

I'm like "NO! You're ruining the level with your map destroying moving through rock powers... damn you... now I have to remap to your point of origin. Stupid Umber Hulks.... always going around messing up my map! Grr!"

This is how one Umber snuck up on me.

                          Oh yeah... hummerhorns!

Gah! I forgot how annoying hummers are! Nasty little bugs! Luckily stinking cloud gets rid of them, but they breed like lice, so they can be a bit of a nuisance to get rid of.

                            More annoying monsters

Crud! I forgot all about Phase Spiders! Luckily I'm wearing a Ring of Flames.

Blink Dogs... weak but annoying. Lucky I have rings of Flames and Lightning. Made quick work of the pack of them.
