Killed one named, but now 'Vargo, tyrant of fire' just cast fire and took me to 140/315...

Wow, Vargo was hard - and dropped nothing at all.

Another item gave protection from dark making it an easy choice to use the high armor armor instead.

Now I just found 'leather armor of himring' with only 20,15 but interesting protections, chaos, nether, and poison. Guessing I should use it.

E(lemental) uniques are *never* worth fighting at their native depths, and are not really worth fighting at all. They have no drops, they are tough, and they destroy items on the floor (like other E monsters.)

They're worth fighting to get rid of them, so you stop running into them all the time. Similar reasoning applies to Saruman.

A trap summoned an undead beholder and nether wraith - the beholder seems strong. Probably won't kill it.

OK, I can see that. But they are certainly not worth fighting when they are still a real challenge.

Next level, 'terribly dangerous'. I see it has Kavlax the many-headed...

He killed 13 things in one breath as I got around the room.

You are lucky to live. If he had breathed gravity, you would be dead.

In other words, don't bother trying to kill him? I've already gone from 30 CCW to 4 or 5 from the last vault.

He doesnt have a lot of HP, but if he gets the jump on you (with a gravity breath) he can do huge damage before you get a turn. If you have plenty of speed and good damage output, he's a pretty easy target. 5 CCW means you cant afford risks in any case. Play conservatively until you get your healing stash back to normal.

He's better taken down in his sleep. Preferably with a bit of speed

OK, all out of speed potions and he's about 5 squares from the door.

Kavlax is one of the most dangerous mid game uniques. Don't dare until you have very good health (>600) and speed at least >10 and plenty of healing.

                                More choices.

A cloak of Aman with protection from dark, 3 stealth, 25 armor.

Cloak of thorongil with resistance to acid, see invisible, 11 armor.

I have the helm that also does see invisible, but hope to replace it.

I have the shield that also provides resistance to dark.
