    Playing a rogue

Decided to give it another try - high elf this time which I'm liking more despite the slowest leveling.

    But the loot!

Dungeon level 5: Narthanc! That's all that needs to be said for a rogue.

But then level 9: Rapier Forasgil! Yeesh, having to pick which to use...

IIRC, Forasgil is basically equivalent in power to a 'thanc, and it's a different element than the one you have. As long as you aren't overburdened or struggling with inventory slot management, you can do the elemental swap thing: carry both, and wield the one that works better on what you happen to be fighting.

Pro tip: if you engrave two weapons (or same-type armors, but it's usually used with weapons) with @w0, there is a built in macro that allows you to swap between them by pressing the x key. This makes elemental swapping much easier.

Funny enough, the base damage of the thank is lower, but the elemental damage is higher.

I like rods, but starting to think a rod of light isn't worth keeping.

Found a +3 searching/+3 dex ring of the mouse, but that -12 accuracy is a killer.

Rod of light is helpful for a rogue when facing trolls later on. You won't be quite strong enough without it, but hack and back down hallways with a line of them will weaken them enough you can kill them. Later still, it becomes extremely helpful to illuminate hallways until you have ESP. It cuts down on the chances of getting ambushed unawares. It also lets you use archery in the hallway.

High Elf rogue gets tough later, when you need half a million points to level up at CL 40.

Well, the rod only works once and needs to recharge; is that very helpful?

Can't I just shoot down halls without it?

Staff of starlight... now that one seems worth dropping.

I've got a hall of trolls now, but it seems better not to use the staff of light because it'd wake them and my steal has them asleep.

You will eventually get more rods of light, so you can zap them three or for times, which is enough to kill a row of low level orcs or to weake trolls considerably.

Is a ring of the mouse as bad as it seems because of the accuracy reduction?

The +3 dex and stealth are nice, but...

The ring is good for a rogue, it supports a stealthy playstyle. Of course you should take it off while fighting.

OK, thanks. I'll keep the next one since I dropped that one when I saw how it crippled my damage. Is a potion of nimbleness worth the tradeoff?

But a ring of reckless attacks is a bad idea because of the lower accuracy, right?
