    randarts question

    hey everyone,

i played angband decades ago and just started playing again. generally really impressed with the updates to the game.

I just started trying randarts and I'm wondering if there's a way to know all the artifacts that were generated or do you just keep grinding levels? I'm having trouble figuring out what to keep and my storage is totally full.

I saw some of the randarts posted by people and they look crazy!

    thanks in advance!

There is a text file that gets generated each time you play a RandArt game, though I do not know where to find it. You could do a search on you computer for randart.

To me, though, it seems like it would be cheating to look at the file. Not knowing what to keep is a big part of the challenge of Angband, especially with Randarts: you have the chance at some crazy, powerful gear, but you'll never know what you're going to get, as compared to Standarts that you can learn and remember all the good ones and discard accordingly.

Personallly, the high resists I would keep, in order of importance, are Disenchant, Chaos, Nether, Shards, Stunning. In myexperience (and I've seen others post along these lines as well) Nether seems to be the least frequently generated in Randarts, but I haven't played enough Randart games to really know that for sure.

In my experience, Fire/Cold immunities seem to be much more common in Randarts than Standarts.

What updates to the game are you impressed with? What are some changes that you like or things you're glad to see gone? Just curious.

      ah got it.

i think my character has already found some pretty broken items, but constantly trying to cover a few missing things.

i agree its a bit like cheating, but i played for a long time before and got used to all of the standard artifacts. i've gotten a good number of super powerful randarts already. gotten fire immunity ring and acid immunity gloves with +hit/dmg. i'm mostly curious if there are any other +blows items or slay modifiers on non weapons...

      things i like...
no more perma curses, option to not have to play the identify everything game, useful multiple windows with info

Here's what i'm working with! Didn't do any save data copying like I used to back in the day... I've always played by clearing every floor (minus the early ones where I fall through a stupid trap door). Had a couple of rough fights but I think the weapon I have makes everything fall over

yea, ESP has been really hard for me to get. I only have one randart so far with ESP but it replaces the crown that slays undead

for speed, the biggest slots are rings and it seems hard to pass up on the rings i have... but i definitely see why speed is so good though. i could probably rearrange some gear and drop at least one of the rings

I see base 20 in that gear. Oooooh huge overburden slowing him down by 5. Maybe cache some of the healing potions at home? And are you really using those huge stacks of attack rods? You might also be able to handle traps on your own skills and drop the stack of disarm trap rods or at least thin it to save weight.

That axe is ridiculous. It is better than Grond, which should never happen.

Get rid of those rods, your disarming skill is at 100%. And store your heals/*heals* you will never have to use them at your depth. Just keep a few in case you want to fight some uniques. Your DEX is maxed, which also means there's no reason to carry more than one copy of the deep books. Inscribe that copy !d and squelch them.

Same for the shop books, since you have fire immunity.

Frankly, I'd lose all the rods, including healing (recharge is too slow, and a palidin with a stack of restore mana doesn't need them, especially with your damage output). Squelch tie attack rods. And I'd reduce all of my potion and scroll stacks in inventory down to at most about 10. Storing endgame consumables is what the home is for; it's not a museum for weapons and armor that you'll never use.

You don't need Slay Undead against Morgoth.

yea i'm just sort of a packrat. my home is literally a museum that's why i was trying to figure out what to trash from home! i guess i won't ever replace the weapon probably...

the potions of mana and *healing* i've found useful for the really hard hitting bosses i've run into. i had used rods a lot but i guess it really isn't that useful.
