    Angband 4.1.1

The new version of Angband is now available from rephial.org; here are direct links to Windows build, macOS build, source zipfile, and source tarball.

This version principally fixes bugs and balance issues from 4.1.0; thanks to everyone who has contributed to finding and fixing these. It also contains the experimental persistent levels birth option.

    Please play, enjoy and comment

No idea who added that, but recalling next to a vault that is simply a huge pit full of aether hounds is REALLY scary...

Vault name: "...and let slip the dogs of war"
      Type: Medium vault (new)

Fortunately, the vault is closed with granite walls. For a moment, I thought they were secret doors :O

Yeah that vault is not something worth attempting, except via Banishment. Be thankful it wasn't Ethereal hounds.

Huh, did not know this wasn't in V before. Nice work Nick, but it requires some slight tweaking yet. V does not have Hounds of Tindalos, but those are what makes that vault truly fun to encounter when diving. Perhaps a slight edit to monster.txt would be in order?

EDIT: Concerning Banishment, looking towards the O branches provides the fix to Banishment solving this vault.

4.2 will contain more than a slight edit; for now, Ethereal Hounds will have to do.

Looks like it requires new save files too, the one from 4.1.0 doesn't seem to work?

They should - I will check.

                  Assertion failed!

                  Program: C:\Angband......
                  File: cave-square.c
                  Line: 678

                  Expression: square_in_bounds(c,y,x)

I was either trying to hit Polyphemus, or he was trying to hit me.

Edit: seems to be reproducable, same thing happened again. Want save file ?

I reach DL10, then went back to DL9. On DL9 I read a ?Recall. It asked if I wanted to reset to current depth and I said no, because I wanted the recall to go to my deepest depth of DL10. In town I discovered I didn't save enough gold for ?Phase, so I took the stairs to DL1 to collect a little gold. I went to DL2 then went back to DL1 and to town. I bought the ?phases I needed and read a ?recall, which took me to DL1. Shouldn't it take me to DL10?

Yes, that sounds wrong. I will check.

Looks like you're correct, 4.1.1 is not savefile compatible with 4.1.0. So that's one principle broken

Paladin nits: some of the spells have ridiculous character level associated.
                              * Recall should not be CL 40. This is purely a convenience spell, as you can always drop your scrolls together one more item home with you. CL 30-35 is more appropriate.
                              * Brand Weapon should not be CL 47. As it stands, it's a useless spell. By CL 47 you are almost guaranteed to have something better than a MoD of Flame (+15,+15), which is the absolute best you can get with the spell.
