Lance of extra attacks

I found a Lance of extra attacks, but being a human priest I have problems wielding it. Can I only throw it away, or might there be some use for it?

It's extremely unlikely it'll ever be your best weapon. But you can certainly store it at home until something unarguably better comes along. (And if it's only +1 attacks it has no chance to ever be used.)

There's a maximum weight you can use, given your strength. If you exceed it, you'll only get one blow no matter what. Once your strength goes up some, you'll get 3 blows. It'll be a fine weapon then, though it's still so heavy it will put a pretty stringent weight limit on the rest of your gear. It'll also add 25 points to the base fail rate of every spell, which can be a problem. (That means it takes an extra 8 character levels to get the same fail rate. It's mostly a problem for the big Heal spell you get around 25.)

+2 attack speed means 2 extra blows per round. It's capped at 1 blow only because you're too weak to swing it properly, and the average damage is zero because your hit chance is nearly zero. Once your strength stat is high enough for that to go away, it will instantly become a 3 blow weapon with decent damage. Of course, it will still weigh a ton (probably triggering overburden penalties just carrying it in inventory), and it's an unblessed sharp weapon, so it'll hurt your spellcasting if you actually wield it. Might as well stash it at home, but I agree with Pete Mack that it's unlikely that your priest will ever use it. For any class other than priest or mage, that lance would be a great early-game find, but you're not playing one of those other classes

By the time your character's strength is high enough to use that weapon, you will probably have found better weapons.

Nevertheless, the damage shouldnt be zero - I suspect youre wearing a ring of mouse or 2.

Thanks for the explanations. I indeed have 2 rings of mouse, but also a ring of accuracy (12,0), which combined with my sling of accuracy, (15,5) and my iron shots of frost (5,4) are extremely efficient at a distance - don't ask me how to interpret what the figures between brackets exactly mean, I have no idea: it just gets rid of everything too strong for other weapons, maybe even better than Orb of Draining, which often fails.

I think I will put the lance of extra attacks in my home. One of the shops offers 10.000 for it, so even if unusable, it's a nice piggy-bank, for when I would like to buy one or 2 expensive artifacts - yes, I know, I'm very old-fashioned, still selling stuff in the shops, but I like it.

PS from the answers to the figures, I get that some of the combat info pertains to:
- first line: the number of blows it can deliver at the moment:
1.0 blow/round
- second line: the potential number of blows it might get in the future:
with +0 STR and +0 DEX you would get 3.0 blows
(although it still is confusing as it suggests that if my STR and DEX do not increase I should get 3.0 blows. (Puzzling!)

PPS The Lance was actually dropped by Orfax, Son of Boldor after hitting him with 2 of my frost shots, after he not only teleported me and himself just somewhere, but exactly near him, where he might have given me a bad blow if he had not already been given my first shot.

The +0,+0 is a minor bug in the display code, which does not check for overweight weapons. You probably need a strength near 18 to use the lance. (I actually suspect you WILL be able to use it before other weapons become more powerful. The big issue is the fail rate.)

Being that @ is a human PRIEST, why would you bother carrying or saving the lance? By the time @ is strong enough to use it effectively, you should have found a much better "priestly" weapon by then which won't have the negative edged-weapon effects for the class.

Can't see anything wrong with using the Lance! Just finished a game with a very similar one. Don't think I found more than, let's see, about 50-100 better end game weapon candidates. Didn't find a better Lance though.

What a good idea Thralbee. I had a chance, and wasted it: just got rid of Eorlingas, after finding Doomcaller in a game as HE Rogue. They're both fun weapons, and doomcaller in particular is great for a high level Rogue. The -50 AC is neatly offset by Shield.

The mental image that arises when one imagines a hobbit paladin with a 30-pound lance is...odd. Especially when they're able to poke you with the thing seven times per turn. Congrats on your victory!
